Will SMC have a winter 2010 session?

Anybody know? Thanks!

Did SMC cancel any summer sessions?

I heard it’s a 80/20 chance. My econ prof (who’s part of the council that deals with money - forget the name, haha) told us SMC had enough money to sustain itself a whole year without government funds.

And SMC didn’t cancel summer, though they did cut a lot of classes (just like any other CC).

Yeah, I go to LACC, and we cancelled one of our summer sessions. However, I’ve heard through the grapevine that LACC has cancelled Winter courses.

Hiroshi66-LACC has indeed canceled winter session. Really sucks. I hope the other campuses in the district decide to keep winter. I think they’re voting on it on the 19th.

LACC canceled their winter session? That really sucks. I was planning to go their for the the winter since PCC canceled their winter session too.

Now I’m back to square one… =/

Yes, it’s really too bad that LACC has decided to cancel winter session after all. I’ve heard that in addition to LACC, LATTC (LA Trade Tech College) has also cancelled all winter classes. That’s true, the other campuses will decide what to do about winter session by a vote on August 19th.

Xero, oh no! What about GCC (Glendale College)? It’s rather close to both LACC and PCC. I’m not too sure if they’ve decided to cancel Winter session or not.

I think I heard that GCC will keep their winter session, but anything can happen with these budget cuts. I would go to GCC but I’m trying to keep my classes within the district for easier transfer. I’ll go to GCC as a last resort.

larinaga - I’m sorry if this is off topic. But what difference would it make if I take classes at another community college which is not part of the same district as my home school (PCC)?

For example, I’m going to take classes at LACC and PCC during the fall. And due to these budget cuts, I might have to head over to GCC for the winter, since I just found out that LACC canceled their winter session. Should I avoid going to so many different colleges?

There’s technically nothing ‘wrong’ with it, it’s just that it is a little more difficult to attend colleges in different districts rather than attending schools in one district. Especially when it comes time to send all your final transcripts to the universities when you transfer. You’re going to have to request original transcripts from all the different colleges you’ve attended. So, if you do end up going to GCC and LACC, you’ll have to request an official transcript from PCC, LACC, and GCC.

Also, the names of courses can differ from district to district. So, while IGETC is the same throughout all the LA community colleges, the UC’s may have different agreements (in terms of the names of courses that satisfy requirements) with other colleges like PCC or GCC.

But, though it may end up being more difficult, if you plan accordingly, it is very doable.

Hiroshi66-I couldn’t of said it better myself. Those are my reasons why. It becomes a bit of a hassle in terms of course names. I’d rather keep it simple unless I absolutely have to attend an out of district school.

Same here, Larinaga. Unless it becomes absolutely necessary for me to attend an out of district school, I would rather stick to only one college.

Okay guys, thanks for explaining. I guess it will be a little more difficult for me when it comes time to transfer. I checked with my PCC counselor three weeks ago and he said that the classes I’m going to take at LACC were equivalent to theirs (subject, units, etc.). I even signed a consortium agreement, so everything is all good.

You’re welcome! Yes, if you’ve spoken with a counselor, then you’re good to go.

does anybody know about los angeles valley college?

Upper: LACC AND LATTC have canceled their winter sessions. The rest of the community colleges within the LACCD will vote on their winter sessions on August 19th. You’ll hafta wait 'till then.

Yes, Pierce & Valley will decide on August 19th. Same with the other three LACCD campuses (Mission, Harbor, Southwest).

ooo hope they have it.

anyone know about ventura county colleges? like, Moorpark?
