Will super SAT II scores help my chances?

<p>I'd really like to attend UC Berk., but I've been told that, as an out of stater, my chances are relatively slim. I was just wondering whether or not really good SAT II scores (i'm taking the Chemistry and Writing tests this sat.)would significantly boost my chances. If so, what scores do you think I should aim for? (Right now I'm shooting for at least 700 writing...at least 720 chem.)</p>

<p>Here are my stats so far:</p>

<p>1460 SAT (720V/740M first time 790v/670m second time)
Math IC: 700
ACT: 33
A.P. U.S History: 4 (There are only 4 ap classes offered where I live; AP History is the only one I've been able to take so far.) I'm taking 2 right now (AP English and Chem.) and plan to study for the AP physics test on my own and take it.</p>

<p>National Merit Semifinalist
U.S. Senate youth program finalist
Eagle Scout
Hornaday Award (Boy Scout conservation award; fairly prestigious for those who know about it. This makes me wonder...do they research awards they've never heard about?)</p>

<p>Historical Honor Society-Secretary
Phi Kappa (Southern High school fraternity)- Scribe
Physics club - Co-President
Sr. Class President
Boy Scouts
(I'm in like 6 other clubs and organizations...but there's only room for 5...which isn't cool)</p>

<p>3.8 UC GPA</p>

<p>Okay but not spectacular essays (I'm not a writer....I'd say not the best essays they'll receive but definitely not the worst...top 25% probably)</p>

<p>If my stats seem too low and even two 800s wouldn't save me, please let me know.</p>

<p>Really good SAT II scores, from what I've heard, really helps anyone get into Berkeley. I've heard that they stress test scores very heavily. Aim for an 800, unless you're in the 650 range and more wrong answers will hurt your score (but you have time to study so aim for that 800).</p>

<p>I'm not going to guess chances on the UC's - but I believe that they count the writing twice as heavily as the other SAT II's, so you should probably work on that one a bit if you have the time.</p>

<p>do the other UC's count put a lot of emphasis on the Writing SAT II? i hope so because it's my highest score.</p>
