Will taking the ACT in December hurt my acceptance chances?

Hi everyone!
I'm an International student, currently studying in the States as a Foreign Exchange student in High School (I'm a Senior).
My guidance counselor has been able to translate my transcripts and my unweighted GPA since the beginning of High School for me is 3,9. I have done 400hours of community service in the 2012-2013 time period and I am a member of the BETA Club, National Honors Society, Student Council and Math Club. I previously scored a 31 in the ACT BUT my school made me take only the Math and Science part since I'm an exchange student, so I'm working harder to bump it :(...

The nearest date available for the ACT is in the middle of December, unfortunately :(... Apart from some state schools, I was thinking in applying in some prestigious ones, such as MIT etc. after working on my ACT score, but I was wondering, even with state schools, will waiting so long to apply burn my chances for admission or even a possible scholarships from a good school?

Thanks.

i have no idea. it depends on app deadlines and every school is different there. however, practically speaking, you had little choice due to geographic availability of ACT. Maybe get everything else in now and mention you are taking December ACT, you could not take it before now(at least this year).

Well, I’m applying all over the US so we can speak on a broader range… Like, even for state schools.
Is there any chance that I can complete and submit the application, but let the college know that I will submit my tesy score in December? I know it depends on the college, but how do competitive colleges accept you if you do this?
Thanks.

Submit your applications but make sure that you indicate that you are taking the december ACT so they wait. Don’t worry, people do it all the time, usually, if there is no delay, they don’t even begin any of the applications by the time the December score gets there. Just make sure you mark in everything during the ACT date or else there might be a delay in getting your score.

So, can I actually submit my application while leaving the test score field blank?
Also I’m applying for a scholarship whose deadline is December 15th, one day after the test… Do you think I’ll make it in time?

Regarding the above: colleges will let you know the last ACT/SAT date they’ll accept in order to be considered for scholarships. I can’t speak for all colleges, or even most colleges, but University of Alabama clearly states on the website: “The national December ACT and the national December SAT are the last college entrance examination results accepted for students who want scholarship consideration.”
Check the specific college website to see if any such information is there. And I agree with darkaeroga - make sure you select the colleges (especially the one with the Dec. 15 deadline) you want your scores sent to when you register for the test - if you wait until after you get your scores, that will definitely be too late. Good luck!!
