Is there expected to be more applicants to UC Schools this year than the last?
If there was, would UC's just up more acceptances, or would it be more disadvantageous to the common applicant?
Thanks!

I don’t know about whether the total number of applicants will increase, but from the trend of the last few years it seems likely.

With the UC’s current budget woes, there is no way they will be increasing enrollment.

So yes, it will probably be very slightly harder next year.

Agree with Blckmgc^. The UC’s get a lot of applicants from in-state, but a lot of OOS students and internationals students apply as well.
The UC system has earned a good academic reputation and that attracts many quality applicants. Additionally, people from OOS think all of our schools are on the beach and that everyone here knows how to surf.
So the attraction of wanting to be at a California school is heightened by some myths.

“If there was, would UC’s just up more acceptances”

Likely to be more apps – trend w/all colleges due to ease of Common App. Plus the nos. of adults seeking to get more training.

Can UCs just up acceptances? Very unlikely as infrastructure (housing, classroom vacancies, faculty) is not very flexible. For instance, Princeton can not, on a whim, just decide to admit another 100 students just because they like them. They have a fixed number of beds.
