Will this be looked down upon?

First prompt for University of California:
Describe the world you come from - for example, your family, community or school - and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

... so I'm talking about my "world" of video games. I'm talking about what I learned from it and how it's become my dream to become a computer programmer because of it. I plan on discussing controversies of video games and how I stand as a proof against it.

I asked my sister and she said it seems way out there (which is bad). I'm pretty sure my parents will not approve of it, so I haven't told them. I'm still working out some kinks. I would stop typing it if it would not be approved.

i say go for it :)
it wont be your typical essay that lots of ppl write about (family, community, etc.)
make sure to turn it in today!

Definitely go for it, as long as it doesnt sound like that literally is your world (in other words, that you do nothing else but play video games, that would be weird).

But its different, which is what they look for. Also, make sure you hit hard on how it specifically has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

Make sure that the main subject of the essay is you, not video games or controversies about them.
