Ok, here's the story. I applied to Columbia SEAS but later realised that I was more interested in the College. So I asked the adcom to shift my application from SEAS to the College and he replied promptly that my application had been shifted.

Heres the problem : Am I gonna be screwed when the adcom sees that my Columbia College application has the "Why Engineering" essay?

I'd send a letter explaining the change.

My personal essay is fine, it's not relted to engineering. But there is a question in the application which asks "For Fu Foundation School applicants, why do you want to pursue engineering?" (Or something on those lines). I answered it as I had earlier applied to Fu. But when I changed my application from Fu to the College, they refused to remove that essay. So basically, I've got a Columbia College app with a "Why Engineering" supplemental question answered.

I don't think so-what was the CC supplemental? If it vaguely fits, you shouldn't have too bad of a problem. Otherwise, they'll understand.

But there are pretty high chances this will kill your dream-if you feel that strongly and worse comes to worse, you can always transfer in.

However, think positive!!! :]]]

Well, it was mandatory for engineering applicants, so I filled it. It's a small question, not an essay. But now I've changed to the College.

from experience: no.

however, don't take my word for it.
