I'm a rising senior thinking about transferring. I go to a competitive private catholic school and hate it there. I've had a bad experience and fell into depression sophomore year. I want to transfer to the public school near me for my senior year. I know that is uncommon to so senior year but I really think it is in my best interest. The school has a good reputation and is ranked highly in our state. I'm a pretty good student and have a 29 on my ACT. But will it look bad to colleges transferring my senior year? I have two teachers who will write me a Rec letter and I know my counselor at either school I end up at will write me one. Input please!!! Thanks

Will you still be able to take the same level of rigorous courses? I could see that it might matter to some schools and less so to others. What colleges are you thinking about applying too? State public schools? HYPPS-type schools?

I transferred before my junior year from a decent private school to a ****hole of a public school because my family couldn’t afford the tuition anymore. The classes were a joke and I think that looked bad on my application. But if your new school is a good one and you can still take “difficult” classes and crank out solid grades, it might not matter as much.

But, if you hated your school since sophomore year, is there any reason why you’re choosing to transfer NOW instead of holding out for another year that’ll fly by?

Thanks for the reply.
The public school is good and I can still take a couple of ap’s there and I’ll definitely keep my gpa. The problem is most of the schools I want to apply to are borderline reach schools for me.
The schools I want to apply to are: university of Maryland, northeastern university, loyola chicago, Boston university, indianna university, American university, depaul, denison.
I probably should’ve transferred earlier but I thought things would get better but they only got worse.
