Will UC__ rescind my admission?

@bhav007‌

A C- would jeopardize your admission decision in my opinion. That is a failing grade, and as credulity said, people who have a failing grade had their admission decision rescinded.

What do you guys think if the course I dropped was in the subject area of my major (history) but wasn’t a major prerequisite–as in, I’ve already fulfilled all the other prereqs for a history major, this was just another history class I was taking on top of that. I’m having an inordinate amount of anxiety about this but I couldn’t get anyone on the phone today.

@sonic23 We’re in the exact same boat. I’m thinking it will be ok, but I won’t be able to relax until I hear back from them. Are your other grades this semester pretty good? I have verifiable documentation supporting the circumstances behind my drop, so I will definitely appeal if my admission is revoked after I cry a whole lot.

@Cayton Doesn’t mean that’s concrete though - maybe these people applied to impacted majors. But, two C’s vs one C and one W are probably pretty comparable. The only people who could really let you know are the people at Admissions - and sadly they probably won’t give specific advice. :frowning: I think you should be able to pull at least one B from the probabilities you’ve posted. Or adding a late course isn’t a bad idea.

@bhav007 It’s VERY possible if you get a D they will rescind because you technically won’t have IGETC completed and broke your contract. Not sure how strict UCD is. In these cases people usually appeal and say they will take it during summer session.

*edit: Okay if they said it’s fine to drop and you’re seriously worried about failing I would just drop.

I read your post and it looks like they will rescind their decision if you get anything below a C. However, judging from the last section regarding any “D” or “F” grades, I think they will give you an opportunity to explain your situation so, if you have a legitimate excuse for getting anything below a C, they will uphold their admission decision and allow you to attend this fall.

I was going to suggest you drop the course, but it seems they caught on from people doing just that from years past. If I were you, I’d just do the best I can in that course and get at least a C. There’s nothing further you can do unless you miraculously get an incomplete instead of a failing grade, which means someone up above decided they like you.

Guys, I dropped a non-prerequisite class(Linear Algebra), but I have my IGETC completed and all my prereqs completed. My concern is when I dropped the class, it put me below 12 units; I’m now at 10 units. Shouldn’t be a concern right? I have like 90 units for credit.

The reason I’ve been mentioning incompletes is because that is an anomaly admission offices haven’t caught up to yet. No one where does it mention what will happen if you get an incomplete, which means, it is infinitely better than getting a grade that already has been decided by the admission offices to be a make or break in your provisional contract.

For example, if you get an F, it has already been decided your decision will 99% be rescinded. However, what happens if you get an I? You managed to toss a wrench into this dilemma, meaning, you still have a fighting chance of attending in the fall.

I don’t recommend getting an incomplete because it can possibly make your situation even worse, but if you have a D or F? Might as well do anything in your power to stay afloat!

@credulitykills‌ yea i have As in my other classes worse case scenario ill end up with two Bs. I never in my life thought I’d have to drop a class from my major but i eneded up getting a horrible teacher. Hes insane to say the least and im doing the best in his class so far and I have a high D lol, so.im dropping it

I should mention incompletes aren’t in your power. It’s in the hands of a professor, but if they’re willing to give you one, I’d take it in a heart beat rather than getting an F or D. You will have to complete the class within the year or you’ll get an F, but by that time you’ll be at the school anyways so, why not?

Okay, Thursday is the last day to drop, which is also when I’ll get my last midterm back for the class I’m worried about, so I’ll decide then.

@BurntCorpse‌

I have no plans for grad school and I can’t find another class on such short notice in all likelihood at my school. I think I’ll just stick it out and hope for the best.

@refreshe18‌

It will affect your financial aid, but from what I have read, it will not affect your admission decisions.

@bhav007‌

Contact UCD before you drop the class. It says in your contract to contact them before dropping any classes.

@BurntCorpse‌ Hmm, I thought a withdraw didn’t affect financial aid because you attempted more than 12 units? Do you know if that’s the case or it doesn’t matter.

@Cayton‌

Alright, but consider dropping if you can’t get the grade you desire. I think by May you’ll be able to add up all the points within the class and see if getting a C or B is attainable so just be aware of that.

@refreshe18‌

I don’t know how your school distributes fafsa and cal grant, so if your last disbursement is after you drop the class, you may end up only getting 75% of your remaining fafsa/cal grant amount.

@Tzeros wow are you me? Im dropping an extra history course ive already completed all pre reqs this was just an extra one. What UCs were u accepted to? Call and ask them ao far UCSB UCR UCSD and i guess UCI said i was fine to drop since i still have 60 units limit. Now im just waiting on UCLA so I can SIR

@BurntCorpse‌

Thanks. I’ll be sure to keep your advice in mind.

@sonic23‌

I’m waiting to submit my SIR to UCLA as well because of my schedule changes. I’d hate to lose out on 100 dollars and have my admission decision rescinded at the same time.

@Burntcorpse I am so tempted to just do it bit I know i should wait. This sucks lol, have you submitted the change on myucla/application? 15 days is such a long wait!

@sonic23‌

Yea, I made the changes today, and was also told it may take up to 15 days to get a response back.
