Will UCs/privates rescind an applicant based on senior year first semester grades?

I am doing the full IB Diploma, and as a result, my course load was/is extremely difficult.
I received a D in IB Spanish IV first semester, but I sent an email to the UCs notifying them. (I still recieved above a 3.0 unweighted, and a 4.0 weighted GPA for senior year).
(Cumulative GPA= 3.3 uw, 3.9 w)
I did not notify the private schools of my D, as my counselor uploaded a midyear report.
I received an invitation to the Chancellor's reception for UCSB ("honoring top applicants," I RSVPd to the Irvine, CA one), so I think I'll be accepted there.

Do you think they consider my email telling them of my D? They won't rescind me as long as I don't get a D second semester right? And maintain above a 3.0 uw?

You need to call and speak to someone in the admissions department. They are the only people who can give you a helpful answer. It is scary, but pick up the phone and call. At least then you will have an answer and can move on to Plan B if they will rescind you.

^Thank you for the help!
Any other thoughts/suggestions??

post 2 told you all you need to know, IMHO

People out here can say anything, but the people that actually know work in admissions.

Typically, you need to get that 2nd semester grade to a B, so that your final grade, on the final report, is at least a C. Otherwise you do run the risk of being rescinded.

The only person who can really tell you that is the admissions office. I know that many universities dislike rescinding, and typically only do it with D’s, F’s, or expulsions, criminal activities, ect. That one D is sketchy. Sometimes they reach out to see why there was a significant drop in performance. Contact the admissions office.

I do know students not admitted because of a D so that is possible. UC’s can rescind for a D and I have seen itl, but it is certainly not automatic so you have to see what they do in your case. Privates I don’t know, I’m sure it is on a case by case basis.

Nephew was rescinded with a ‘D’. Depends upon the school.

In response to the last three posts: Thank you, but when you mention these cases of students being rescinded, were they bad grades in the first semester? I am aware that I cannot recieve anything close to a D second semester. I currently have a 97% in Spanish as I stayed in the class.

If you reported the D to them already, they may take that into account in the admissions decision, and possibly admit you with a modified list of conditions that account for the D (the typical conditions at UCs usually include something like completing the previously listed senior year courses with a 3.0 GPA and no D or F grades). If you do get admitted with the typical conditions, you may want to call the admissions offices before May 1 and ask if you will get rescinded for the D grade that you previously reported to them.

As others say above - call/contact admissions at each school that hasn’t declined you yet (accepted, wl or just still pending). The answer may vary by campus but, you need to know while you have time to do something about it.

Good luck.
