I found out about a week or so again that I was accepted as a James Monroe scholar with a full scholarship plus $3000 a year toward room and board. And I guess it also comes with another $3000 stipend for research I think. Does anyone know anyhting specific about the program?

I received my acceptance on March 6. I also received the William and Mary Scholar Award, which is equal to tuition and fees for four years.

^^march 6 this year or last year?

this year. march 6, 2010.

I found out on the 23rd last year in Northern Virginia so it shouldn’t be long before you guys find out.

pmk - were you a Monroe scholar or anything, or just a regular kid?

I wasn’t a Monroe scholar or anything. Some people found out slightly later and others slightly earlier. It will probably take longer for out of state people to find out.

Daughter heard last year on March 21…about an hour from WM. Snail mail.

lol. So do they ever update the Estimated Mail Date shown on the admissions web site or does it come as a complete surprise?

I wondered the same thing – the admissions page announcement says “ON April 1st” rather than “BY April 1st,” so it gave me the impression that they already knew that it would not be until April 1st.

You know when you open your mailbox. Good news…big envelope with WELCOME on it. Small envelope…waitlist or rejection.

Have any non-Monroe Scholars received letters?

…and does anyone know when international students are supposed to hear by email - same date as the letters go out?

Quote: So do they ever update the Estimated Mail Date shown on the admissions web site or does it come as a complete surprise?

I can say that with early decision letters, they updated the website regularly. We all knew when to look for the letters. Also, my daughter joined the W&M Admissions Facebook Group and the Admissions Counselors regularly posted on that, updating and answering questions.

W&M mailed out decisions to a few select group of applicants in early March (namely Monroe Scholars and W&M Scholars). Monroe Scholars do not receive any tuition monies but instead receive research funds. W&M Scholars receive monies equivalent to in-state tuition and fees each year.

All other decisions will be mailed by April 1.
