William and Mary Financial Aid?

I've been researching William and Mary, and I can't seem to find any signs that they offer much financial aid. I see that they have the Monroe scholarship but that's for students with a 1500 SAT (math and reading) which is very selective. Do they offer any other scholarships? And how good are they about giving out financial aid in general? Thank you!

Did you know that William and Mary is a public college in Virginia? As such, they do not provide much financial aid for out-of-state students. They do have a fair amount of financial aid for in-state, low-income students.

You need to learn how to google before heading off to college.

arabab: I’m from Virginia so I fit the in-state qualification, we aren’t considered low-income, but I still need some help paying for college.
Erin’s Dad: I’m talking specifically about scholarships. I’m not sure how much need-based financial aid I’ll qualify for so I was wondering if they give any other (potentially merit-based) scholarships than the ones I had found.

There is very little merit aid to be had at W&M.

Hi everyone, I figure you know something about William and Mary’s financial aid if you’re posting here. I’m a rising senior and I’ve been really interested in the College but unfortunately I am out of state. My family is on the lower end of the middle income bracket so the 25k OOS price tag would be out of the question. I’m aware that there isn’t much money to be given to non-Virginians, so should I just give up on applying although I am really interested?

That $25k for OOS is “per semester”. The school’s COA is over $50k per year for OOS.

You probably need to put your efforts towards schools that will work.

If W&M meets 100% of need for instaters, it hardly meets any for OOSers, looking at the fin aid stats. I don’t have the OOS v in state breakdowns, but the ratios are danged close in that the % of students getting full need is about what the % of in staters. As BobWallace notes, only about 30 student get any merit money who don’t qualify for need.

I don’t think W &M is very promising for OOSers who need aid, nor for those who are looking for good chances of getting substantial merit money, in or out of state.
