I'm a junior in high school and I'm interested in applying to W&M next year. I'm not from virginia and I'm not a minority or varsity athlete. I just scored a 34 on the ACT and I was curious if whether or not people think this makes the cut for out-of-state admissions. 34 is well above the middle 50 that's listed on princeton review (27-32), but I know out-of-state admission standards are much higher. Do you think I have a shot?

That score is good but it is just one component of what is rated as very important for admission: http://web.wm.edu/ir/CDS/cds_0910_part_c.pdf You need a good class rank, good GPA, good ECs and good essay. I was surprised the OOS % was as high as it is (35%): http://web.wm.edu/ir/CDS/cds_0910_part_f.pdf

27% of women were admitted, 44.7% of men? Why is the ratio of men to women applying so different?..7,652 to 4,457??

Thanks.
If I understand correctly, the OOS % would be even higher if they didn’t give preference to people from Virginia.

You’re fine test-score wise. William and Mary can be pretty funky with admissions though, so a good test score will not guarantee you a spot.
