Is anyone choosing or leaning towards William and Mary over UVA? If so, why?

Please also chime in if you applied only to William and Mary, not UVA, and say why. Also, is anyone considering VT/VT honors instead of WM or UVA? This latter is D's situation (didn't apply to UVA because of preppy/party rep) and has fallen in love with VT honors (with housing option). But will be doing an overnight and Accepted Students Day to check out the smaller school environment of WM. She plans to study some combo of bio/psych (pre-vet).

If your D didn't apply to UVA because of the parties I think VT is going to have a similar atmosphere.

I'm a current freshman at W&M and I applied early decision because I did not want to go to UVA because it seemed very pretentious and I was interested in LACs but wasn't able to afford them so W&M was the best viable fit for me. As for VT, I think majoring in something that isn't agriculture/veterinary science/engineering when you have the option to go to a school like W&M or UVA is a really bad idea. Our liberal arts departments are topnotch whereas at VT they are an afterthought.

It will take visits to each campus and speaking with those in her bio and psych departments to make a great decision. Normally, I'd say W&M over VT in every sense but if she truly wants to be a Vet, VT could be the ideal choice. Good Lucki

VT is a glorified JMU, unless you are there for engineering. Even then, UVA has a very good engineering school and many go there instead of Tech.

Though VT may have the vet program, there's always grad school for it and W&M has a very strong pre-med program to get your D there. I don't have to say which school is better between VT and W&M because the numbers and the outcomes speak for themselves.
