William & Mary Class of 2019 ED Applicants Discussion

We should make a facebook page for prospective students

@ribbonroad224 I took a year off so I could have some more real life experience before I went to college so I had a wider worldview and a better idea of what I wanted to study. I wanted time to explore all the things I didn’t have time to do while I was in high school.

@0blondie2‌ me too! our brother school has public ones and they make everyone so competitive. We’re the same with APs; you’re only allowed to take two max junior/senior year.
And @Runnergirl76‌ that be fun!

@1sparkle2 that’s awesome

When do you think they’ll release decisions? The 2nd maybe?

@Runnergirl76‌ I feel like the 1st is more reasonable since it’s a Monday. I’m hoping it will be then, too, since it’s earlier ;)

@wm2019 haha the earlier the better!

What are you guys thinking about studying in college? I think studying International Relations would be interesting (and useful as I want to go into law after college). I definitely want to continue taking French in college.

I hope we fine out early!! I’d literally check my email all the time if I have to wait until later in the week. When they send the email, do you know if there are like specific subject titles they use depending on admission or not?

@Runnergirl76‌ omg I’d die if I were you!! Which ones are you taking? Ahh yes that’d be fun haha.
@wm2019‌ ik even with a limit on APs people are competitive enough! And I like how if you can only take a certain amount of APs you’re not necessarily penalized for not taking the most rigorous course offered per subject, you know?

The title of my acceptance email last year was Good Things.

@ribbonroad224‌ I’m planning to major in elementary education (W&M has a 5-year master’s program, which would save me time and money), and double minor in history and religious studies, since they are my favorite subjects. As far as language goes, I stopped French after last year, and I thinking of studying Russian in college.

@0blondie2‌ I definitely agree with you. I’m only in two APs right now and it’s hard; I don’t know how you would be able to take more!

@ribbonroad224‌
I want to pursue a Psychology BS with a Biology minor and wouldn’t be surprised if I earned a Creative Writing minor since I love writing and plan on taking a lot of creative writing classes. My career plans are still in the works, but I know I want to be a university professor because I want to work with students in an academic setting and be able to conduct research. Currently I am interested in the cognitive and moral development of young children but we will see where life takes me.

@ribbonroad224‌ I want get a BA degree in psychology and I also love English, so I’m considering either a double major or just minoring in English. I’m definitely not continuing with Latin (I’m in AP level 5 this year). I can get exempt from taking a language because I’ve taken courses past the required levels, but I may want to study a modern language.

I took Spanish all throughout high school and have gotten to the point where I can have real conversations. I would love to achieve full fluency, but I have also always wanted to take French…it’s all going to come down to what fits in my schedule. Did you guys see they’re going to have new general education requirements beginning the fall of 2015?

@1sparkle2‌ that’s the one thing I regret about taking Latin- I can’t have conversations with people because the language is dead! And yeahh what exactly is the difference between the old and new requirements?

As far as I can tell, with the old requirements you could fulfill most of them with your AP credit but with the new ones you have to take the William & Mary courses. They’re interdisciplinary and are supposed to teach you how concepts apply across majors. There’s different classes you have to take each year to fulfill them.

@1sparkle2 Wow, I hope we can at least use some of our credits from exams haha. Can you link me to where you read about the new gen ed reqs? Thanks! :)

What have you guys heard about social life? I’m kinda shy, more on the quiet side, but obviously I want to have fun and make great friends and memories, and I’m just a little worried that because social life apparently isn’t that great, it will not be as easy as I hope to put myself out there and have fun.

AP/IB
Cannot be used for COLL credits but will continue to count towards the 120 credits to graduate. Students may use AP/IB credits in all elective courses, including the 3 in the required knowledge areas, for some courses in the major (varies by major) and to satisfy proficiencies.
