I won’t say exactly what sport it is, however it’s a sport that does not require a ball.
@cmamidwpb That’d be cool if it was swimming, because I plan to be a walk-on if accepted
72 hours to go!
I’m still not convinced that they will release this Thursday, as it falls 3-4 days earlier than the second Thursday in December often does.
But that would be great if they did release Thursday.
@cmamidwpb Because I’m the resident release date obsessive on this thread, I’d thought I’d come back and chime in.
Yeah, to be honest, it’s not a sure thing that they’re going to release on Thursday. If they release on Thursday this year, they’ll be doing so on the 10th, which is five days ahead of the deadline. Last year, they released on the 11th, which is also pretty far away from the deadline, but, it might be that the 10th is too far and that they’re going to move things around.
It’s also possible that they’ll hold to their routine of releasing on Thursday, simply because they’ll have all the applications reviewed by then. I mean, 600~ apps is a lot, but it’s not a crazy amount to handle in two months time; I know RD is about 6000 apps for them and even their fly-in program, Windows on Williams, nets about 1200 applications. If the ED round is their smallest pool of applications to handle, it’s reasonable to think that they could probably push out decisions a little early without it being too much of a burden to them.
To be honest, I probably should not be giving this too much thought because it’s both a) entirely nonproductive and b) really anxiety producing. At least, in a way, speculating about /when/ ED decisions will come out is distracting me from speculating about /what/ my ED decision is going to be.
And just to be absolutely clear: I’d like to be on the record saying that I think decisions will come out at 6 PM this Thursday. If anyone else would like to make contrary estimates, I’d be interested in seeing who (if anyone) ends up guessing the right date and time. You know, just as a fun thing.
I am also applying as an athlete for a sport that doesn’t utilize a ball, nice.
@rcldel Ahh. Recruit or a planned walk-on?
@DressingIron November 15 to December 15th is one month. Does anyone know the exact number of ED applicants?
It’s usually around 600 applicants, but, in light of recent events, it’s probably not a good idea to put all that much faith in my numeracy.
I just read an article, it was 594 last year.
I have a quick question, because I have noticed that almost all the people I interact with on college confidential are men. Are there any ladies on this thread?
@MrTongueTie I think I read the same article. It’s pretty impressive how nearly 50% were admitted last year ED. Get’s my hopes up a little bit lol
Ya, it was 224 out of 594, which is ~ 40%. But then if you take that 40% and take out the legacies, athletes, rock stars, and Obama’s daughter…ha…
Also, I’m curious: have any of y’all started written supplements for other schools yet? I haven’t had the animus to write supplements for other schools, but, It’s beginning to occur to me that I should probably start.
@MrTongueTie such pessimism. We’ve only got a few more days, let me be happy before my dreams get crushed
@DressingIron I started writing the apps for a couple, but I want to wait till I get my decision from Williams before I really commit. Probably isn’t the best idea though…
@DressingIron I actually did most of the supplemental essays over summer, so I haven’t done any in a long time. I am kinda hinging my bets on Williams…if I don’t get in I will have to scramble a lot!
@Shoumei It is better to be pessimistic and always get pleasantly surprised than to be optimistic and always get royally bummed
@MrTongueTie that’s what I was telling the Stanford folks the other day, can’t even listen to my own advice lol
Heh. Well, at least I’m procrastinating in good company. I’ve half-written a few supplements but when I actually read them I realize that I’m either going to have to revise them massively or probably start from scratch. Still, it gives me a warm feeling to have /something/ in those little text boxes on the Common Application.
And I agree Shoumei: often, Stanford doesn’t believe in itself. In my opinion, it’s almost as good as Cal.
@Shoumei Ew, you spoke to THOSE guys? :(|)
@DressingIron I have written lots of those, thinking to myself “oh, I’ll fix it later” when I know it is complete baloney
