definitely. i was rejected from wesleyan and got into williams, so it is totally random.
Any idea if Williams will take students off the WL this year?
Very random indeed, Wesleyan is also a great choice.
Same result for my student a few years ago. Wesleyan fills more of their class in ED and had already accepted several students from our high school in both rounds of ED.
Hard to tell, but it should be more than last year where they only took 1 off the wait list. It depends on how many RD acceptances decide to go to Williams, the yield was higher last year so they had a larger incoming class than planned. Also, during the summer, some students decide to not attend for extenuating circumstances and that can lead to movement on the wait list as well.
By design, Williams should take at least some students from its waiting list.
Here’s a link to the wait list thread:
did your portal ask for financial documents?
I declined the offer, sorry
Here is the latest on the waitlist:
I’d appreciate recommendations of favorite Williams professors (and their classes or tutorials) to guide an incoming Freshman.
(I created another thread with this question, but have not had any luck in getting replies on that thread). Thanks!
Did your student get assigned an advisor? Does your student know any older Williams students? Williams does have a platform where students share their thoughts on the classes and professors. I forget what it is called and when they get access to it, but it is incredibly valuable information. What classes is your student interested in taking? Hoping others on here that have a better memory than I do will chime in. If not, definitely post your question in the Williams College families Facebook page.
Thanks for your reply. I didn’t know about the Facebook group. We’ll check it out. Meeting with the assigned advisor is next month.
Advisor input will be very helpful especially if there are with the relevant department. Most intro level courses are very good, departments want to present their best face to potential majors generally. Econ department is uniformly very good, all profs are well liked, some classes are known for difficulty level.
@MaynardFergus1 If your student is interested in art history, I would consider taking Art History 101 which is taught by two professors. Williams’ art history department is one of the best undergraduate programs in the country with the added bonus of having the resources of the world class Clark Museum and the college’s art museum in walking distance.
Did you get your questions answered? It is getting close to move in date. Wish you and your first year the best of luck!
Also, any of the History, English or Poly Sci 100 seminars would be a good way to start and get exposure to class discussions and papers.
