Williams College Class of 2027 Official Thread

Well played, Williams and Amherst. That April fool joke was pure gold.

Very funny! Classic Williams/Amherst humor, they don’t take themselves so seriously.

Our D (high school senior) will attend Previews this month. 1. Does anyone know if the school provides shuttle transportation for attendees between Logan, Hartford, or Albany Airports and the college? 2. Will attendees be able to stay in the dorms, or do they need to arrange their own lodging? Thanks!

Yes, they doing provide shuttles and if you are in a pinch, can coordinate rides. Attendees stay with a current freshman in the Quad or Mission dorms.

For anyone attending previews- where is your child deciding between (top 2 or 3?).

I’m a student who will attend preview, but I am still not committed. I am still conflicted, but I have narrowed it down to top 2: Williams vs. Berkeley GMP (direct acceptance into Haas business school). Hoping Previews can give me some clarity

Congratulations! Both acceptances are an amazing accomplishment during a very competitive admissions year. Are you interested in financing and consulting? East or West Coast?

Thank you so much  I’m interested in non-profit consulting or marketing (although that might change)! I’m an hour away from Berkeley, and I want to stay in California post-college (Sf/San Jose/Elk Grove). But, Berkeley’s very insane class sizes, toxic club culture, and housing is worrying me a bit. And, surprisingly Berkeley gave me less aid as an in-state student compared to Williams.

Huge Congrats! Those are great options-

Williams aid is great. A lot of people forget that they also pay for all books for students on FA and they also pay for any music lessons you might want to take. We also live across the country and my son’s least favorite thing is travel. He prefers to fly out of Boston so he can get on a nonstop. You may not have that problem where you are located. The small class sizes and community are a real positive at Williams. My son knows everyone from groundskeepers to professors he has not had a class with. Good luck to you in your decision!! Going through the course catalog for both schools may help the most.

Great to hear that you are considering non profit consulting/marketing, so many skills from Econ/stats will cross over. One thing to note, Williams has several internships with nonprofits during Winter Study that would be an excellent way to get some exposure and experience.

In preparation for Previews, take a look at these professors and their research work!

From the beauty and euphoria of math research to American Yiddishkayt—and lots of subjects in between—six professors participating in the Faculty Lecture Series will share their research over the course of six Thursdays from February through April. – Today (williams.edu)

I would be grateful if either a current Williams student or parent could give a perspective on this- my son keeps hearing that only athletes on teams fit in socially at Williams and everyone else is on the side - my son is sporty but isn’t a recruited athlete. He isn’t really into parties but of course wants to have friends and a social life. I think socially he would be fine as he is an outgoing, sporty, sociable kid with loads of friends at his current school- any insights into student life would be much appreciated -

This is not the case, most of the campus leadership roles and JAs are non athletes. There are “formals” hosted by all the student groups that are attended by all groups.

Thank you.

I think a kid like this would have no trouble finding their group at Williams. I think most kids could.

We know a couple of recent graduates who were athletes but say their closest friends were still the ones they made through the freshman year residential group and were pretty diverse in interests.

Is your son hearing this from a Williams student? Definitely not what we have experienced. My son is not involved in sports at all and has plenty of friends. Your son will not have any problems finding his people. There are many activities for first years designed to get them together and help friendships grow.

Interesting article on how humanities majors are in decline at Williams and other colleges, now would be a great time to be an English major at Williams since you will have your pick of advisors and classes!

There are 1970 people on the WL this year. I am curious how many of you have decided to stay on the WL?

Also, for those still making decisions, how did previews go?
