Yes. She is going to the preview day as she can’t wait till the fall!
Congratulations!!
Rejected. TBH lots of tears the past two days
That’s great, the classes available to visit look really interesting as noted earlier.
Sorry to hear this but know that random factors are hard to assess or understand. On the other threads, hearing some are rejected by Pitzer but are admitted to UCLA, or rejected by Bowdoin but admitted to Amherst, you just don’t know how things will turn out.
Sending kindness your way.
These decisions make no sense to our family at all. There are very very few candidates that are accepted to the majority of these lottery schools.
It’s been a hard time for our family too and still have 14 outstanding decisions not including 6 WLs which my child is going to say no to except for one of them.
Hang in there
Agreed, the common app has made the process a lottery. Also, one silver lining is that schools may take more from the WL since yield has also become a lottery. Seems like they are being more liberal with rejections vs. WL, so getting on the WL is a feat in of itself.
That did not prove to be true at top schools last year and several schools are still struggling with over enrollment.
I don’t think schools have been able to adjust their yield formulas to work in this new environment.
Yes, but hoping that we are transitioning to a return to normalcy post covid, and that as cost the difference between top privates and flagship state schools widens, more unaided students opt for their state universities, which will address the over enrollment issue.
I believe the barriers to application have been made too low. Students aren’t applying to only schools they care about, but all the schools of a certain type. It’s too easy to apply too many places; it used to be too hard. There must be a happy medium…
TO has exacerbated this. Not a fan.
I actually think the QuestBridge “top 10 list” and matching process is fantastic. I’ve been trying to work through in my head how it could scale up for all admissions.
Yes, I like the Questbridge model as well. I agree about TO, as well as schools that don’t charge fees- even if other schools stillcharge, if the application budget is X, the fee-free schools leave more in that budget.
My son applied to double-degree programs and conservatories as well as LACs. Some of them didn’t charge on the LAC side but did on the Conservatory side.**
Agreed on TO driving up the app numbers and making it harder for students to determine reach vs. likely schools.
TO means 1600 SAT and 36 ACT don’t mean much anymore. Even as part of an otherwise qualifying application.
Stats are out for Williams. Looks like ED applicants went up but RD went down a bit. Maybe because of supplement?
The above indicates a tentative RD acceptance rate of 8.2%.
RD applications went down by more than 25%:
Yes, though the number of admittances by almost a quarter as well (20%?).
