The required supplement could have been a factor, ED was a record and the ED pool would not be deterred as much as the RD pool for an additional essay.
Deleted. Guess I should have read the article first.
That makes sense. I know several people, most of whom werenāt even considering a small LAC, who pushed the button on Willams because āwhy notā after an unsuccessful ED round.
By far, Williams offered the best FA. The second best was from Vandy. Vandy/Cornelius met FAFSAās EFA. Williams was way lower than our EFA. Both schools offered no loans and no work-study. My DS has never vistied these two schools before though. For pre-med which school is the best choice for him? Any thought?
I absolutely love Williams but itās very remote and not for everyone. Iād definitely visit before making a decision.

Definitely go to Previews, they do a great job giving you sense of the classroom experience and campus life. It is a special place.
I am a doctor. I went to Williams. Itās a phenomenal education, and it would be extremely unusual for a Williams premed not to get into med school. Yes, it is rural but thereās a ton going on, you are never bored. Iām a real city person but Williamstown is a special place.
Yes we are quite excited and just booked to attend previews.
Williams was high on D19ās list when we visited years ago. It might be helpful to posters/lurkers in this thread if those of you familiar with Williamstown could recommend lodging.
We had a tough time finding suitable lodging when we visited and would have appreciated some recommendations.
Williams Inn-great but expensive
Tourists
The Fairfield Inn (Bonvoy)
Porches-in North Adams ( town next door) close to Mass MOCA which is definitely worth a visit.
For more modest accommodations, people have recommended the Maple Terrace Motel in Williamstown. The former Holiday Inn in North Adams is being renovated and is now Hotel Downstreet.
If you canāt find anything in Williamstown or North Adams, I would consider staying around Bennington, VTāan easy 20-minute drive down Rte 7. Friends have stayed at the Hampton Inn in Bennington.
I stayed at the Fairfield Inn when we came for move in. Book dates super early to get the best rates. It is what you expect from Fairfield and they have free breakfast.
We stayed at Maple Terrace when we came to visit during Covid, no admission tours. It is what you would expect from a motor lodge, clean and quiet with a farm behind. They were supposed to have breakfast, but stopped during Covid. Not sure if that has started up again.
We rented a VRBO on Oneida Lake when we came to visit for my sonās birthday. It was beautiful and everyone loved it and want to rent again for graduation, about 15 minute drive from Williamstown.
Maple Terrace was nice and clean, as others have said. It is even walkable to the campus (30 min?) if the weather is nice and you like that sort of thing. Our window looked out on the cemetery, so we got a real ārest in peaceā vibe. Seriously, it was quiet and perfectly fine.
We liked Maple Terrace, too. Simple and clean, and the owners were really friendly. Lovely grounds. They did have a very simple continental breakfast available as of this summer.
Agreed on exploring nearby Bennington, itās a great town and you can drive through on the way back to Albany Airport.
Are there Uber options? I donāt drive and my husband cannot take days off workā¦
We have to get taxi or Uber from Albany airport and in town as well.
Will thst be a problem?
Unfortunately no Uber or Lyft in Williamstown or the surrounding area. People in the Williams families FB group recommend a local taxi company called Normās Limo. There is public transportation in the Berkshires and separate public transportation to Bennington. This page on the Williams website has more info:

How does one get to Williamstown from Albany airport?!
My student doesnāt travel from the Albany airport, but there is supposed to be Uber and Lyft available. The college has a few options on their site Transporation Services ā Williams College
The college runs shuttles for students to the Albany airport, Logan airport, and NYC near Penn Station at the start and end of the year and at breaks.
