I got placed in Willkie, in a three person dorm. I am an athletic guy who enjoys the gym and the sports. I also love enjoying parties and average joes like myself. Will I be out of place here or will there be others like me? I requested NW but was instead placed here.
I would describe my son in the same terms that you describe yourself. He too was placed in Willkie for the upcoming semester, but in a single with a “jack and jill bathroom” connected to another single. I presume he will be paired with his requested roommate in the other single–I’m basing this assumption on the fact that his requested roommate was also placed in a Willkie single. Any way, we were initially disappointed because he requested the NW neighborhood–Briscoe or McNutt to be specific. Willkie is an expensive dorm, it’s further away from Kelley than the NW dorms and it isn’t, typically, a freshmen dorm. My wife called and found out that there will be freshmen in Willkie this year. In fact, I found an article online from last year that mentioned that Willkie housed freshmen in the 2015-16 school year as well. So, now we are feeling better about Willkie and, more importantly, my son feels good about it too.
I stayed in Wilkie in a single last night (while my daughter stayed at the Trump Tower :)) also known as USC Cedar) I actually liked Wilkie, and being a veteran of college dorms I thought it was pretty good:
- room is roomy for a single and has LOTS of storage space, huge dresser and closet.
- Jack & Jill bathroom was huge, especially the vanities with plenty of storage below
- nice view and large window and blinds
- large desk and bookcase
- good lighting
The meh points were few:
- AC system hard to get to your preferred temperature (fan seems to be running constantly)
- some noise from other rooms
- elevator key
- cable TV jack placement could require some creative TV / furniture placement
