I keep hearing about people getting window fans for the dorm room. Anyone have details as to where to get one, how big, how to install???

The cheap box ones you can get for about $20 at Home Depot/Target or even the grocery store are just fine.

Maybe closer to $40 or 50. The ones I’m familiar with have two small sized fans set into a rectangular frame with adjustable sliding sides so they fit any window width. And they also have a reverse setting to draw odors out of a room, which as MS used to say, is a good thing.

A very good thing.

Here are a couple cheapies

Be aware that some fans say they are reversible, but all it means is that you can turn the fan round to make it exhaust. Also, some windows are pretty wide so the extensions don’t completely close off the sides.

Cheaper, yes, but the first one has no extensions and will leave a lot of open space on both sides (insects, rain etc) and the second isn’t reversible except by pulling it out of the window, turning it around and putting it back in.

I had one of the square box fans. I still have it! We didn’t have any problems with bugs or stuff like that because you put it in the window but the screen was still there. What I liked was that sometime you don’t want it in the window and you can put it on the floor. Iused it in the towers even though there was ac. The bathroom got too steamy and it was good for airing it out. Andit was good for blowing burned popcorn smells into the hall :-P

Smyth had no screens.
