anyone live here or know anythign about it?
Is it inside the UF Campus?
are there any freshman/any social activity?
do you recommend it, what is bad about it, cause from what i read, it's the best option.

also, sorry if this question sounds stupid but, are there any financial benefits that on campus has over off campus housing. does financial aid or any financial help ever go towards housing if you stay on campus?

on-campus housing is significantly less expensive than off-campus
also, i don't believe financial aid can be applied to off-campus housing, but it certainly can to on-campus housing.

Windsor is off campus.

Windsor Hall is a pretty nice off-campus "luxury dorm".

Have a friend who lived there her first year, its REALLY nice, but expensive. Its literally 2 blocks from campus, perfect walking distance.
They also have roommate matching, which is pretty good. Most of the matches end up being pretty good friends or w/e.

Unfortunately, the rent went up for next year, so my friend is moving out. But if you can afford it, its a really nice place to live. Its exactly like dorm living, only in a nicer place. (with the price tag to go along with it).

They have swipe keys to be able to get into the building, a nice common room/living room, great pool area. Also, the management is good too, maintenance is pretty timely.

i was looking at the prices and it's really not that much of a difference, it was like $10 more. i'm guessing the reason you say it's more expensive is because the financial aid you recieve for on campus is not available for off campus, so we ultimately have to pay more?? yea i definetly dont have money so if it's significantly more expenzive i'll go to beaty, or w/e

i forgot to mention I was referring to a single dorm.

Obviously a single dorm would be more expensive than a double.
Also, if you have a car there you have to pay extra for that too.

But don't you actually get more financial aid if you live off-campus as long as you mention that in your FAFSA?

And while it may be more expensive compared to traditional dorms like Broward and Jennings, it's still cheaper than the suite style dorms such as Lakeside.

I remember reading about this place in a thread on here awhile back. polar opposite of sobe55's description:

ahh ok so now my edited question is, for others to answer:

do we get more financial aid if we stay on campus or off campus? how does the desicion to stay on or out affect the fincancial aid we recieve in any way?

if you look at the date of the thread DiGamma23 posted, its from 2006.

A few things that have changed since 2006:

University Commons is now about $625 with utilities/cable included. University Commons Condos

Lexington Crossing is about $500-619
http://www.lexingtoncrossinguf.com/floorplans.cfm

The Polos
http://www.thepolosuf.com/floorplans.cfm

Windsor Hall (singles are REALLY expensive (imo), doubles- not so much)
Windsor Hall: Luxury University of Florida Housing

(these are just of the few off campus offerings)

hope this clarifies a few things up.

and you typically do get more financial aid if you live off campus because the school figures its more expensive to live off campus than on (because it is).
Cost of Attendance

Some rates are PER BEDROOM, whereas some rates are to be divided up with your buddies. How do you know which one is which?

Well, the rates I posted previously are PER BEDROOM.

I visited this place last weekend. It seemed nice, but then again, it was spring break so most of the residents weren't there. I ust have a few questions about the property and hopefully someone thats lived there or someone with indepth knownledge about the place can help:

Is the social scene similar to the on campus dorms?

Are the walls as thin as everyone is saying, allowing for it to really be all that noisy?

Is it really packed with drunk sorority girls?

Actually, Windsor Hall was less expensive for my D than the on-campus dorms that we looked at. My older daughter lived on campus her first year. My younger daughter lived in Windsor. It was WAY less $$ than Beaty, which was Ashley's first choice on campus, and instead of sharing a bathroom area with three other girls like she would have in Beaty she shares it with just one in the double at Windsor. And she can still walk to class. When we did the math last year, the difference came to $200 per month (less expensive at Windsor). Plus, UF on campus housing is projected to go up 10% this year.

In regards to noise level-- she is in the female building. She says it's quiet, but she is friends with a girl in the coed building who says that it can get noisy on game days.

Somtimes I think we should have spread out the girls more. Between books ($$!), study guides, computer upgrades (older daughter went through 2 in 4 years), it's a tough few years for those of us who had two kids in school at one time.

Gatormom, did you pay for the parking there at Windsor? When I talked to them about Ivy, they said you could get city street parking with a permit for like $17 a year. Do you know anyone who did that and is that option available with Windsor?

Anyone can get a decal for city/street parking.

Yes, I realize that. I was just wondering if it was practical for folks living in these offsite dorms versus paying $100 a month for parking. Is it possible to find spaces with these street permits and is it convenient for Windsor?

Thanks.

My daughter lives a block from Windsor and her ex-roommate had city parking decal with NO problems finding spots. I feel, as a parent though, that I will always pay for my child to have an assigned spot near her apartment. When you have a car-full of groceries or bags of laundry or luggage (after coming back from breaks), you will both feel better that she dosen't need to hunt for a spot near her building.

Thanks for the input. I guess it really just depends on the residents who choose to stay there from year to year. Heh, well i guess i'd have to take a risk for anywhere I choose to live...
