Winter 2012 Transfer Thread

Wow, Joshua I don’t understand how you didn’t get in… can you elaborate on how many credits you have? I see your a second-semester freshman but depending on your credit hours that may have been what kept you out. I don’t understand if you got wait-listed before, why would they deny you this time? Perhaps a quick call to one of the admissions specialist or perhaps director will help alleviate any mystery. I would ask for a straight-forward explanation in your case because I’d be shocked if it wasn’t for the credit hours.

Even if it was for the credit hours, I have approximately 42 credits with 13 from this semester pending. Have you ever heard of someone winning an appeal?

Joshua, I’m pretty shocked as well. I think you need to go to Ann Arbor and ask to speak with an admissions counselor so that you can get a straight answer as to why you keep on getting denied. Something just doesn’t seem right here. I know it’ll be the best way for you to get a straight answer and maybe then you can decide if it’s really worth appealing. Did you just find out today? I keep on checking WA and still no answer.

I just got an email a couple hours ago. My wolverine access has yet to be updated.

Ok so basically it seems that if you get an e-mail before anything shows up on WA, you’re ****ed. But if you get something on WA before an e-mail you’re good.

Pretty small sample size unless you’ve heard from others, but still has me worried about unexpected emails…Side note, now checking WA 10 times a day.

@Joshuadrc Where do you go to school? are you a freshman? Sophomore?

No I have heard of this before. That just kind of confirms the trend. And I’m checking WA literally once an hour and my e-mail as well. I expect to hear back 10/14 but obviously it could drag out longer. I just really want to get in, don’t think I can take the disappointment of not getting in again.

@mechiganboy

I am currently a freshman at Central Michigan. As far as credit standing goes however, I am a sophomore/junior. I have a pretty challenging schedule (bio 208, Chem 131) and was sending my counselor progress reports (aced all exams so far) I’m still in disbelief at my denial.

Okay, I was similar last year. But considering you have done ZERO college work, it doesn’t surprise me. I applied last year with a 3.76 after one semester and was rejected. Put in a good two semesters and you’ll be FINE. They want to see you succeed in a college environment. And JW, where do you live at CMU?

Yes but I also attended night classes after Football/baseball my junior and senior year at a community college… So I have 4 semesters of college work under my belt already… And i live in Emmons 318 lol it’s a great place

Haha I’m an RA in an undisclosed building on campus… wooooooooooooo… If you wanna meet up for lunch sometime message me.

The decisions that Michigan has made seem somewhat arbitrary so far.
I just got in today, and I didn’t complete my application until right before the deadline. I’m transferring from a 4th tier school in Kentucky, so I’m obviously out of state. There isn’t that much to say… I don’t need the best of financial aid, but I have to have some to be able to afford it. Michigan hasn’t been known to be the most generous for out of state people, so I have my fingers crossed.
Stats:
GPA: 3.97/3.92(UW) with 7 AP courses
ACT: 34
ec’s: Some tutoring and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity… my activities were better in high school.

Oh, and… FIRST POST! HUZZAH!

@Sagara
How many credits did you have at the time of your application?

As far as credits earned just through college work and not AP credit, I had 31 completed by the time of application. I’m currently working on another 16. That’s why it surprised me a little that I got in, because I heard that Michigan STRONGLY prefers Juniors as transfers.

@Sag, Did you find out through WA or by email? Did one come before the other?

@Sagara, Congratulations! You’re really lucky to have gotten in so quickly.
@Joshua, you have to realize that Michigan most likely saw most of your college work when you applied as a senior. How much has really changed since then that Michigan can actually see? I think if you put in a solid semester at Central, you will probably get in as a sophomore transfer in the fall. You were borderline, although I still fail to understand how you didn’t get in as a high schooler.

I’m still checking WA like 5 times a day and I hold my breath every time I see a new e-mail. It’s really maddening. I can’t wait until this is over.

Oh yeah, almost forgot…CONGRATS!!!

I found out through wolverine access first, but I just got an email a few minutes ago. And yeah, I still don’t see how Joshua got rejected either, but not much has changed since his last rejection, so as odd as their decision is, it makes sense that it would remain the same.

Actually, I got the email at around 8:00 this morning… I just somehow didn’t notice it. I can’t believe I missed that!
