Winter 2012 Transfer Thread

@abrknight did your links ever show up

Yes, they showed up a couple of days after my first post. you?

@abrknight no… i messed up my application. it didn’t get submitted properly and I don’t even know if it’s being considered. They told me to resubmit it on October 11 when I was on the phone with admissions and I realized what happened. It just really sucks cause i took 29 credits while working 20 hours a week in order to have enough transferable credits to transfer in the winter… so I have a WA and stuff but it just says exactly what yours did. They had my supplement, letters of recommendation, and transcripts, but not my application. =/

I applied for spring term 2012(not winter) through the winter 2012 application. On the supplement I simply said I planned to enroll in the spring term. Am I still eligible to apply for fall 2012 through the fall 2012 application?
hope it makes sense

thanks

What difference does it make, if you don’t get in for Spring 2012, you won’t get in for Fall 2012 either as your grades won’t have changed from what Michigan can see.

So far, only two got decision. Anyone else?

It makes a difference because:
a) I will have better essays
b) If I hear back before Feb 1st (which should happen) i will have another semester of grades to send

What’s the deadline for the Spring 2012 application? I was under the impression that it is the same for Fall and more or less grouped with it. The flaw in the I will have another semester of grades to send theory is that it is highly unlikely you will hear back before this semester ends. Michigan will mostly likely wait for you to send in your first semester grades before giving you a decision, therefore you won’t have another semester of grades to send in. A midyear report does not count. Also essays in terms of transfers is really not that important. Essentially the only things that matter are your GPA and credits, trust me I heard this from three different admissions officers. The essays are considered but is not a very important criterion. The reality is that your Spring application will probably be the same as your Fall application.

the spring deadline is Feb 1st but I was under the impression that since it’s rolling admissions I will hear back within a month or two of when I submit it, but I could be wrong. Therefore if I heard back before the end of the semester and got rejected I could re-apply for next fall with this semesters grades. So you don’t think ill hear back till after this semester?

Here’s the thing with Michigan rolling admissions, if you’re a strong applicant and they really want you, you hear back really quickly and get admitted. If you really suck and have no chance, you also hear back pretty quickly and they reject you. If you are borderline, Michigan really drags out the admissions process and waits until the last second to give you a decision. If you do hear back within a month, you will be very strong and will have gotten in so Fall admissions won’t matter. If you get rejected within a month or two, you probably are a really weak applicant and just one more semester of good grades probably won’t do you much good. If you’re borderline, where that extra semester of good grades really matters, you will likely hear back near the end of the admissions process which would be at least in January, when you should have sent in your Winter Semester grades to boost your chances for Spring 2012 so you wouldn’t have extra grades to send in anyways. Basically you’re applying for Fall 2012 but entering during the summer instead.

@abrknight my view credentials and application summary or whatever it is FINALLY showed up! soo relieved! for some reason they just received my college transcripts on the 17th, went i sent them a week ago! snailll maill :-P

Congrats, best of luck going forward!!

appreciate the input anthony

Thanks abrknight! best of luck to you as well
and Michael still apply for spring, summer, and fall. I’m applying for all of those if i’m not admitted into the winter semester, which is likely due of the problems my application endured.

I don’t think you can apply for spring and summer. But yeah I definitely plan on applying for spring and fall if it works out that way.

What’s your GPA?

np, best of luck Michael.

This really sucks, I thought they were going to give out some decisions today since it seemed like that’s what happened last week but a week has gone by and still nothing. This is really stressing me out.

@courtneyy, 3.88 with 21 credits at U of M-Dearborn, 2.86 with 14 credits at first college
 that semester killed me. But I am hoping a 4.0 this fall will help overcome the 2.86.

what’s yours?

Mines a 3.45… reall low… i took 29 credits this summer and right before my last 5 final exams of the summer my ex boyfriend committed suicide… soo that was a little bit of a GPA killer. I just got off the phone with Umich admissions and they said i didnt make the deadline due the problems with my application…sooo i will have to update it for the spring semester… =/ and i’m at OCC.

Im really sorry to hear that, to increase your chances I would try to get your gpa up to around the 3.6-3.7 range and in the “additional information” essay discuss your tough experience. Good luck!
