Winter 2014 Transfer Thread

Hi e130478 congrats!!! When was ur application marked as “complete”? Gosh I still have to call them at this point…public school efficiency.

Ooops didn’t see ur comment lol Yeah thats funny and how does ur application go?

having special activities affects admission’s decision, Just my guess.
I participated in Harvard National Model United Nations, and was a math tutor on college.
In addition, I have really good recommendation because professor sent his recommendation along with other documents.( but he did not follow ‘evaluation’ thing on common app)
I don’t think personal statement is important because I am a international student and English is second language. (I didn’t check grammar things)

lucy92, I think those definitely help too. Congrats again! UM has a pretty diverse student body and I am sure you will have a great college experience there. Okay mine is finally complete and can’t wait to get a reply too!

Thank you Maggie:)
I want to hear your success as soon as possible!

accepted as of this morning! Go BLUE!!!

Congrats thes1tuation!!! Hope to hear from them asap too.

people who didn’t get in:
what did your letters say?

After an individualized and comprehensive review of your application for admission to the University of Michigan, we regret that we are not able to offer you a place in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Winter 2014.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions considers several factors in determining the competitiveness of all transfer applicants for the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and applicants with junior standing (55 transferable credit hours) are given preference. The factors we consider include the number of credit hours completed in transferable course work, the level of achievement in college course work, and the progress toward completion of general LSA degree requirements, including transferable course work in social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, and foreign language. Here is a link to our website with additional information about distribution requirements: [Area Distribution Requirement | LSA Students | University of Michigan](http://www.lsa.umich.edu/students/academicsrequirements/lsadegreesrequirements/areadistributionrequirement). In addition, since you are a first year transfer applicant, we also rely on your academic record from high school, including your GPA and your standardized test scores.

A number of students who are denied admission as first year transfer students do re-apply once they have established a solid academic record of transferable course work in college, and we invite you to explore this option.

Should your interest in attending the University continue, it is possible to change your application to a later term. Please request this change in writing prior to the deadline of your desired new term of entry. Also include the name of the institution you are attending, course title(s), course number(s), and number of credit hours you will complete prior to the desired term of entry. We will notify you if a new application fee or additional information is required.

Please refer to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts website [Transfer Information & Residence Policy | LSA Students | University of Michigan](http://www.lsa.umich.edu/students/academicsrequirements/academicpolicies/residencepolicyandtransfercredit) to assist you in your planning. If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact our office. The interest you have shown in the University is appreciated, and we extend to you our best wishes for success in the achievement of your educational goals.

Sincerely,

Theodore L. Spencer
Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director

did anyone else get this?

I did. I am interested in seeing the rejection letter for non-freshman applicants, though, if anyone received that.

That is the rejection letter for non-freshman applicants.

Been awful quiet around here the last couple of days… Has everyone around here been rejected or what?

Whoops, apologies, I meant to say non-freshman transfer applicants. Maybe for clarity I should swap out “freshman” for “first year.”

basedjesus’s letter specifies that it’s for transfer applicants with freshman status ("In addition, since you are a first year transfer applicant, we also rely on your academic record from high school … ").

In particular, I’m curious about the phrasing in the letter for candidates with junior standing.

Perhaps it’s different for those over 55 credits…

I have 51 (according to somebody who has made a gross miscalculation - 63 are in fact transferable) and will be leaving my current college in December with an Associates Degree, and I received the same email.

I am in the same boat you are. I have 55+ credits that are transferable according to their equivalency guide, but they decided to treat me as a first-year applicant.

Being evaluated on <55 credits probably torpedoed our admission chances. I just looked at your post history, and see you were told the same thing by admissions as I was – that with a 4.0 GPA and near-junior (55+) standing, admission should have its wheels greased.

I am very unhappy about this, to say the least.

Just got accepted today, I’ll have well over 55 transferable credits, especially after this semester, 3.78 gpa. I firmly believe my essays were what ultimately sealed an acceptance for me.

My gf also got accepted today with a 4.0 and ~55 transferable credits. (Community college transfers, in-state)

So, I doubt any of you would know anything about this, but I’m interested in the honors math sequence (295 & 296) does anyone know if its possible to take 296 but not 295. My background goes up to Rudin using analysis as well as a linear algebra class.

Just got my acceptance email this morning!!! GO BLUE!!!

Well, this thread died an unglamorous death.

If there’s anyone out there facing a situation similar to mine (see my two messages a few posts back on this thread) and would like to compare notes, let me know.

This morning, I received an email from Molly Bancroft. The email pertained to the construction of my Winter 2014 class schedule at University of Michigan Ann Arbor; however, I have yet to receive an acceptance email. I am somewhat confused by this. If anyone has experienced a similar situation, please let me know! Thanks!

Tb,

What exactly were you looking to compare?
