What are the chances of getting into any of these schools with a 27 on the ACT, a non-weighted GPA of 4.72, a class rank in the upper 15% of a highly competitive high school taking 1 AP class sophmore year,1 junior year and 3 senior year, and a member of National Honor Society, and just promoted to Senior High School Intern at a major bank. Also wondering if being from Illinois will hurt my chances at any of the three.

I forgot Michigan also.

"a non-weighted GPA of 4.72"
I think you mean weighted; either that, or your school has a 5.0 grading scale. 27 on the ACT is enough for some scholarships to OSU, but that's for in-state. I have no idea how competitive it is for out-of-state applicants.

It is a 5.0 grading scale.

Ok, so that's equivelent to a 3.776 on a 4.0 scale. Your ACT is above OSU's average by 2. OSU doesn't really look at extracurriculars that much; they're more numbers focused. They accept 72% of their applicants, but only 9% that are currently enrolled are from out-of-state...Still, I think OSU will be pretty much a match/safety for you.

If Ohio State is tough on out of staters how come they offer the scholarship for out of state students who get a high ACT score.

I didn't say it was tough for out-of-staters...I said I thought it would be pretty much a match/safety for you. The average ACT composite for OSU is 25; yours is 2 higher than that--so you're good there. For GPA, you're also above average for OSU by about .2...I think the 9% of out-of-staters thing just shows that mostly in-staters apply--or choose to attend--OSU

Thanks for your help.

i think wisconsin and michigan will be ur target school... wisconsin... u have high chance

Do you really think I would have a chance at Wisconsin?

yes you will be fine, just keep up da gud grades! (what grade are u in?)

Just finishing my junior year, by the way I'm taking the SAT next month, what kind of score would be reasonable to help my chances?

I don't think u need to take SAT, why don't u take ACT again and aim for better score so u don't have to waste ur time... if u want though., i am not sure about da new SAT but.. for old SAT u will be fine if u get above 1300. Is ur GPA non-weighted score? oh yeah, and I advice u to apply as early as you can. its rolling admission, the faster u apply the greater chace!
:)

Yeah it's non-weighted out of 5 with extra points given for honors and AP classes. Is that rolling admission for Wisconsin?

Here is how they figure GPA
Grade Advanced Placement Honors General Education Preparatory/Basic Skills
A 6.0 5.5 5.0 4.5
B 5.0 4.5 4.0 3.5
C 4.0 3.5 3.0 2.5
D 3.0 2.5 2.0 1.5
E 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0
F 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0

To calculate your GPA follow the examples below.

Total Earned Points/Credits Attempted

28.5 Divide by 2 = 14.25
3.0 credits attempted

Assign the correct Point Value (weighted GPA) for the grade received in each course.

Add the earned points and divide by 2. Divide 28.5 by 2 = 14.25 + 0.5 for the *Academic Achievement Point (AAP) = 14.75.

Total credits attempted for semester = 3

Divide 14.75 by 3 = GPA of 4.92 (GPA's are calculated to the nearest hundredth)

Districts GPAs are accumulative. Each semester earned points, credits attempted, and AAPs must be figured into the previous semester's GPA.

rolling admission for all public schools meaning michigan, idiana bloomington wisconsin ohio.. its all rolling

What would a 4.72 GPA according to this equation amount to at these universities?

I am not sure about Wisconsin or Michigan. It also depends on which michigan. If it is Umich then your chances are pretty slim if you are out of state. Madison, I know instate kids with 27s that get rejected (I live in wisconsin). But then again, your gpa seems good. Madison is a great school and I was considering going there! I would apply and if you get in consider it. THey have an amazing med school too, but that is later in life.

i am goint to wisconsin this year and my stats were not better than urs... but then again i m international... so it may be different.. but i tell ya,,, apply early!!

You're in, Mich is a question though.
