My D got rejected. Don’t think she’ll be applying now - if you can’t make it into WISE getting into the actual school seems even more remote.
This might not be my place to say this, but I’m not sure that’s the right decision. I think WISE is targeted towards a certain population (qualified candidates who may not be able to visit otherwise), and I don’t think the WISE application is nearly as encompassing as the actual MIT application. With such selective schools with so many qualified applicants, it also comes down to luck (the people who review your application, their personalities, what they’re looking for) as well as a competitive application. A very large majority of the students who will be receiving acceptances in the next year are not going to be attending WISE. Maybe your daughter will be rejected from MIT, and you guys should be looking into other really amazing schools, but if MIT’s a school she’s interested in, I think it’s worth the possibility of getting in.
@Fangirl1999 I’m going September 18-20. And also, I agree with what you’re saying.
@Dolemite, There’s a very specific kind of candidate they had in mind here. Not getting into WISE doesn’t necessarily mean she wouldn’t get into MIT. Your D can also do Shadow-A-Student if she’s still interested in visiting the campus.

I didn’t get into MIT WISE. Could it be because my family makes over 250k? or is it because of that?
Accepted! Honestly, I qualify for FAFSA and other than WISE, I would never have another opportunity to visit MIT considering I live over 2,000 miles away. Congrats for the others that have been accepted!
I’m going Oct 2-4
She just got the form rejection email and I think if they really thought the candidate was worthy but rejected due to not being the right type they were looking for then they could have taken the time to let those candidates know. I just think MIT is about the numbers and her Math score wasn’t elite enough.
Did everyone get invited to the webinar? Or was it just a select few of the rejected?
@sarahere I got invited to the webinar. I was told they were “impressed with [my] application.”
Yeah , it’s just a form letter sent to the rejected. They may not send it to all the rejected but if it were just a few you’d more than likely get a personal email than some form email.
Can’t even apply, cause don’t live in the US.
D missed the deadline and did not apply, but would like a link to the webinar if anyone wants to share.
@musicalmatrices did you attend yesterday? I was there but they didnt answer the question about who got invited to the webinar
@nw2this the webinar was actually yesterday. although I’m fairly sure it was private and wouldnt have allowed me to invite others
@sleekeekee I did not attend because I do not have a Facebook. Did I miss anything good?
On my (rejected) decision letter, it said “However, we were impressed with your application to WISE and encourage you to consider applying for admission to the class of 2021.” Is that just something they say to everyone who got rejected or does it mean something?
@KnightOfFaith Got the same sentence in my email
First WISE session is approaching. You guys excited?!
