Withdraw High School Pre Calc

Hi There,

My son is a Junior in HS. In 8th grade he was able to attend HS to take math and science so as a Junior he has already had 3 years of each. He currently has a 4.0 GPA and for the first quarter he has all A’s except for Pre-Calc, he has a D+. My question is would it be better to withdraw and have a WP on his transcript or should he stick it out and HOPEFULLY bring it up to a C for the semester. He will most likely not be a math or science major, he leans more towards business and communications as interests. Thanks!

Depending on target colleges, precalc would be the minimum expectation for HS math, with many business degrees requiring calculus coursework in college. Without knowing the underlying causes of his difficulties, it’s hard to pinpoint the issue, but I would invest in tutoring before dropping the course.
