Withdrawing and Resubmitting to get credit for middle school courses

So for all the students that made an error and did not list middle school courses (especially math) on the application, do you think it is possible to withdraw and then resubmit a different application? Or will the system not allow changes to be made to the application once withdrawn? I’m grasping at straws trying to figure out how to correct this error and have my son gain back those 250 MCA points he missed out on.

I think that you should ask admissions at the university. However, I would be a bit surprised if withdrawing your son’s application and resubmitting another one resulted in anything good happening.

LOL - I have to agree, but you know, I’m trying to think of everything. 250 points is a LOT to miss out on, especially for a Mechanical Engineering major!

I did just call and they said they didn’t even realize you could withdraw an application. I told them on the Liaison site it tells you how and she said they were pretty sure it would result in two applications showing up if he withdrew and then resubmitted. She took my info and said she would call me back.

She also suggested I contact Liaison directly to ask them as they didn’t even know withdrawal language was out there anywhere.

We are in the same boat of losing 250 points. If you hear anything from admissions office on withdrawing the application, please post it.

Shouldn’t the high school have them on the transcript?

Washington State doesn’t list the middle school courses on the high school transcript.

Our son is also in WA state. They had the option of listing courses from middle school on the high school transcript, but Algebra wasn’t one of them because back when he was in middle school, it was just the “regular” math path for the kids and wasn’t considered advanced or “high school” level to be in Algebra. With the Common Core requirements, that has changed and now Algebra is considered high school level as CC 8 doesn’t cover all of algebra.

So our son only has his Spanish 1 grade from middle school on his transcript, not his algebra-equivalency, which at the time was just called “math”.

@Ashish99 - Cal Poly confirmed that if he rescinds his application, the application still shows up in the system. They have no way of actually wiping it or removing it. So if he withdrew, he would not be able to resubmit a new application because that would create a duplicate and you are not allowed to have two applications in the system.

So - do NOT withdraw your application! Just sit back, know what’s done is done, and double/triple check all your other applications! Good luck to you, Ashish!

Thanks for following up. I hope, CalPoly change their software which calculates MCA to implicitly add Algebra 1, if it finds Algebra 2 in the list of courses.

We will be careful with all our applications from now.

@twoinanddone @Ashish99 @RoonilWazlib99: SLO does not ask for transcripts until a student is accepted and enrolled, so it makes no difference if the Middle school grades are listed on the HS transcript or not. If they are not self reported, they will not be in the MCA calculation.

This has been a problem for several years and not just with this years new application, but for prior years you listed all Middle school grades/courses under 8th instead of 9th.

There are some great CS minds at SLO that could come up with a solution to this issue so put that “learn by doing” into practice…
