Withdrawing from Calc 1, are my chances of transferring to a top 50 university doomed?

Okay, so I have a 3.9 GPA at my local community-college and I’m 99% sure I’m going to get a D or at best a C in Calc (on the last unit). Now, on my college transcript they have my AP courses as earned credit but with a letter grade of “P.” So if I drop calc and take the W, will my transcript still appear at a heavy load? With my earned AP credits, and the classes I’ve taken, I should have 34 credits.

I just do not want my GPA to fall, I did not study, do the homework, etc. I am such a failure, I just under-estimated how tough it would be, and it snowballed on me. I am okay with withdrawing and taking it again, I am only a Freshmen.
For those wondering, here is my transcript:

English 101 & 102
Micro & Macro Econ
College Algebra & Trig
Calc 1
American History 101 & 102
Psychology 101
Statistics 101

I’ve done mediocre so far but Calc will pretty much drag my GPA into the low 3s. On paper (transcript), I have alot of credits due to my AP courses. I just CANNOT let my GPA fall which will happen if I finish through with Calc.

I already sent my transfer apps out but I’m not expecting to get in since my HS record isn’t very strong (3.6).

I mean, if I get a C in calc instead of withdrawing, my GPA will be a 3.6. Is it worth it to withdrawl?

I applied early to these schools because I thought that having all the pre-requisites done as a freshmen would be impressive, but seeing as I’m going to drop Calc 1 thus not finishing Calc 2 as a Freshmen, that’s gone. I can apply next year though with more credits so not all hope is lost.

Anyone?

Drop it. You can’t get a D.

There is no harm applying to a university for transfer this year, then applying again next year. They might not notice but if they do notice it will just make the point that you are interested in the school.

If you want to major in physics, or in any of the “TEM” part of “STEM”, then you will need to know calculus well. As such it might make sense to drop it, take the W, and then retake the course later. When you retake it you will know that it is going to be a course where you need to keep ahead from the beginning (which is often true of university level math courses).

@suzyQ7 @DadTwoGirls thank you both so much for the advice! As long as I get above an 80 on this final exam I will finish with B+! Glad I decided to withdrawl and retake. Hopefully adcoms will look beyond the W the first time around

and I’m going to be completely honest I think was going to Fail the first time, C was a very high reach at the time. Missed so much of the derivatives chapter and that just started rolling on.
