I'm a sophmore in high school
so about 2 weeks ago, completely out of the blue, my mom is like "I signed you up for a practice SAT...its tomorrow."
The last time I've taken anything close to that was in 7th grade for John Hopkins, and I hadn't even so much as looked at an SAT after that. So I just looked online to find out what the format was, and decided I wasn't going to try to do anything, so I could just see what I get. B/c it wasn't like I was going to learn anything in one night anyways.

So I took the test, and we just got it back this weekend, and I, to my EXTREME surprise, did reallly reallly well: I got a 2020!

But idk, what does this mean? How good is a score like that? How should/can I practice to bring it up a little? What should I strive fore?

(haha I have lots of questions)

Keep in mind that I still have until next fall for the PSAT and more than one year until the actual SAT

It would be helpful to know your individual sections' scores--Critical Reading, Math, Writing, and the essay.

I don't know how good of a score that is for a sophomore. 2300 is the magic number that most people want to pass to get into elite schools and such.

Just because of the fact you haven't taken anything like it since 7th grade, I'd say it's a good score. To give you a reference (though you're not necessarily analagous to me), I got a 216 on my PSAT sophomore year, which supposedly equates to 2160 on SAT. Of course, I've improved quite a bit since then.

depends on where you want to go to college. if you dont want to go to top 20 schools that will be a fine score. and it will naturally improve over time. it should be 2100+ by the time you are a junior

thanks.
I think math was 610, Reading was 700, and Writing was 710
I've always known that reading/writing is my strong point as opposed to math/science.
oh and I got a 9 on the essay

''I don't know how good of a score that is for a sophomore. 2300 is the magic number that most people want to pass to get into elite schools and such.''

2020 is a very, very good score for a sophomore. Step in up just a tad and you have a good shot at National Merit Commended on your PSATs next fall.

2300 is a bit harsh i think. i believe that with even a 2230, Harvard would except you if your GPA and outside activities really stand out. Remember, the SAT is just one of the factors that judges your acceptance to colleges and although I do agree that it is crucial to get a good score, it is not as important as your GPA.

Remember, SAT measures what one is capable of within 3 hours and 45 minutes, whereas GPA measures what one is capable of within 4 years.
