We did it! It wasn’t always easy (but it was always questionable) lol. I made the last payment for D’s undergraduate today.
She kept her end of the bargain, working the school year and two full time jobs in the summer for her own spending, travel, and books, and more importantly, a goal she set for herself…straight As. I know…I know, grades aren’t out yet and then there’s the final semester but geez, this kid has worked hard, both academically and physically, to make this happen and I couldn’t be more proud. She did study abroad, an internship last summer, has loads of connections and friends around the country and has a job when she graduates. I couldn’t ask for more.
Congrats! Where did she attend?
My older D is in the application/decision process and my younger one will be entering HS next year. So your journey ends and mine begins!
Hey folks- there is so much life after college! Just wait until they are self sufficient and giving them money for travel/gifts makes no difference in their possibilities, that is a lifestyle changer. Congrats to all.
Raising hand as a fellow final semester payer and doing the running man while I’m at it! My young man has worked his tail off in the classroom and in his sport, will graduate with honors and is sifting through job offers. Let me stop typing so I can do the running man again…
About six months after we’d made our final payment, I actually got worried when I looked at the bank statement, figuring they’d made a mistake (in our favor). Turns out that when you aren’t paying tuition, there IS money in the account at the end of the month! And then the next month! And the next! Who knew???
Keep on trucking all you folks who are still writing checks. It ends (eventually), and hopefully in time to fix the roof, replace the aging junker in the driveway, and patch up the drywall/concrete which has been decaying for a decade.
