Peter, you are incorrect. COW gets a lot of students from Ohio because that is where it is located. It is a misnomer, however, to suggest they exclusively recruit in Ohio. In fact, that has not been the case for decades. Also, Marinapus is only partially correct. Last year COW took in its largest Freshman class ever. That certainly doesn't strike me as a school being challenged by a declining applicant pool.

I respect what you say but instead of working with impressions, look at their data.

By exclusively from Ohio, I mean around and more than 50% of students being from Ohio. With the exception of last year's class, that certainly has been the case in Wooster's recent history:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010225033941/www.wooster.edu/admissions/profile.html

On your second claim regarding declining pool of applicants being incorrect. If a school has an increasing admission rate (which Wooster experienced between 2003 and 2006), what do you think will cause it? Either you have to admit more people or you have to see a declining pool of applicants or both.

does anyone know when it has to be turned in by? I haven't done it yet...better get on that!

We're from Central Virginia and somehow ended up with four Ohio LACs on our application list (Denison, Kenyon, OWU, and Wooster). I'm hungry for information as to how to delineate these four in terms of academics, athletics (my S will play lacrosse), atmosphere, level of drinking (my S isn't judgmental but doesn't drink), . . . ? Really looking for some honest opinions here!

My S is interested in studying Philosophy. If anyone has any information about that department at those schools, we'd also love to hear it.

ingerp, could you please report your question on the Ohio Wesleyan threads section? I will be more than glad to answer your questions there. I don't want to hijack the Wooster's thread here with irrelevant messages.

Sorry Peter I guess I misunderstood you. To me exclusive means exclusive, not the same as 50%. Also the term you used was "recruiting" not matriculating. I think there's a difference there as well. Thus, I still believe what you said is very misleading.

Your response to the second comment also makes no sense. The number of students accepted has increased. The raw number of applicants has also increased. They have also increased facilities to house additional students over recent years, expanded programs, and hired more faculty. COW is simply experiencing some measured growth. They did not accept a greater number of students from a declining applicant pool.

I have it too and I am confused about what to do with itâŠdoes it act as the supplement to the common app or is it the application all together? If so, I can just copy and paste my common app essay canât I? It would be much appreciated if you could clear this one up for me. If it is indeed the application i suppose the rest would just be: send act scores, school transcript, and teacher recs?

I think this application sounds like the snap apps discussed in The Washington Post:

[The Answer Sheet - Be careful of âsnap appsâ in college admissions](http://voices.washingtonpost.com/answer-sheet/college-admissions/be-careful-of-snap-apps-in-col.html)

The select application they gave to you pretty much has the same information as the common app - the email I got even said that you could use the common app and still be considered as a âselect applicant,â which is what I did since I was already finished with it. If I were you, Iâd just use the common app if youâre already done, since itâs a lot easier and youâll receive the same benefits you would if you had used the one they gave you.

hie all.Im an international student and I also recieved a wooster select app and have submitted it.You submit it in place of the commonapp, but you can use commonapp teacher recs and school report with it.It was really quick and easy and the potential benefits I think are substantial.

The application is pretty much just a more streamlined, simpler version of the Common Application. I too received it when I first applied to Wooster in 2007-2008. It says that itâs a âselectâ application, but they send it out to a large percentage of possible applicants. From my brief talk with someone who works in Admissions, it doesnât really do much in terms of âboostingâ your chances at getting into Wooster, and is just a simpler, easier version of the C.A.
