My son was offered $2,400 work study as part of his financial aid package. Would anyone know roughly how many hours would be required each week to fulfill this amount? He is also considering joining the track team. As a CSOM freshman, would doing track and work study leave sufficient hours each day/week for him to maintain his academic studies?

i’m a work-study student with the same situation. my schedule varies from 6 hours a week to 11 hours a week, but it depends where your son chooses to work. each department, office, etc. works independently with the student to determine the best fit for hours given the student’s schedule. that being said, your son has qualified for up to $2400, which means he will almost definitely make less (especially given his schedule with track). it should be doable, but will require good time management.

also, remind your son to treat his applications and interviews for work-study like those of regular jobs. many students qualify but don’t get hired based on the number of students that qualify/apply and the varying number of positions available each semester. good luck and welcome to BC!
