Work-Study Question

My fin.aid says that I can make up to $2,500.00 p/yr for work-study. Does that mean I can only make $2,500 during the school yr? I'm applying for a job at in the "food services" at my Uni and I can prolly make up to, rougly estimatated at, ~$3200 a year. It's $8.50/hr and I want to work 10 hr or less p/wk for at least the first semester. I might bumb that up to 15 the second semester if I don't have too much going on...anyways..

Does the 'limit' of 2500 p/yr mean that I will prolly lose ~$700 next year if I take it? Or can I make 2500 on w/study and then 700 extra?

You can only earn work study earnings up to the amount of your work study award. Some employees will let you stay on as a regular employee once the WS award is exhausted - that money would then be regular income. You would have to check with the employee. Budget wise they like WS employees because the federal Govt pays a large % of the wage.

Oh, thank you

You can also request that a portion of your loans be switched to WS money, but I would be leery to plan to earn more than $2500 a year. Remember, you will not be working breaks, summers, and probably not the week you get sick, the week you have finals, etc.
