i'm terrified that all the jobs will be taken once i get to nd. i'm gonna be a freshman. i heard that the last thing you want is a dining hall job. i have absolutely no connections and i feel like there will be nothing left by the time i get there for orientation :(

Don't even worry 'bout it. Look on the ND website: http://www.nd.edu/~finaid/jobboard/on_campus/

thanks, i saw that but i tried to do an application and u need to put down what residence hall you live in and stuff and i dont know any of that stuff yet, so i didnt even know if i was allowed to fill out an application yet. plus a lot of these jobs say their priority response time was a few months ago. also, i noticed a lot of them say u have to miss a football game, which i really do not want to do haha

Maggie, I know I made a previous comment about the dining hall jobs. Let me clarify:

They're not that bad. I worked in North and got to meet a lot of people over there I normally wouldn't have because I typically only eat in South Dining Hall. Also, when I worked at North, they have it set up such that every time you work, you get a free meal in addition to the pay. It essentially boosted me to the point where I could eat breakfast any days of the week that I wanted. And the hours there were extremely flexible. They also have pay raises and student manager positions.

It might not be the most pleasant thing in the world - cleaning off dining hall trays - but I wouldn't trade my experience there for anything easier. It makes you really appreciate the education that I believe so many more financially well-endowed students do not.

Look hard in LaFortune the first day or two that you arrive campus. They have a plethora of restaurants - Starbucks, Sbarro, Burger King, the Huddle, etc. There are also positions, I have heard, at many of the Food Service restaurants located in buildings around campus. I think you'll find that taking that early initiative pays big dividends.

And if you do end up in the dining hall, don't lament. Most people are pleased with those jobs. My achilles was that I am a pseudo-germaphobe, if you understand. And there will be many opportunities to find employment elsewhere.

Hope this helps.

thank you!
