My S's roommate was approached on campus as someone who looked confident and was pitched to be a "speaker' for a nice amount of $$$ per month. Has anyone heard of this? It sounds too good to be true to me....but he is desperate to get a job. Any input?

Who was this offer form? A campus organization? I know there are many businesses that go to college campuses to recruit students to their pyramid marketing schemes- we are constantly kicking them off our campus- places like Vector Marketing, Herbalife etc. If they ask you for contacts of your friends , family or for you to invest any of your own money- RUN ! If they ever feel like an offer is questionable they can check with the University Career Services office. We try to really monitor who is on campus and keep students informed on legit job offers and scams.

Never heard of it, but not enough information to really comment. I guess I would take whatever contact info he was given and check with the Tulane administration as well as TUPD and see what they know.

(x-posted with dolphnlvr, looks like great minds think alike).

FYI- I do not work at Tulane (maybe some day), but I have worked for 13 years for a University Career Services Office

Any suggestions for finding a job? Apparently it is not so easy…

Does he have a lifeguard certificate? My D is not on work study but she worked at the Reilly center pool.

I don’t think his roommate has any certifications - thanks for the suggestions - I will pass them along!
