Does anyone regularly go to the workout center?
How does it work, is it free to get in if you
are a student?

I really wanna play Squash and do the Rockwall.

yes.

its included in your fees. you swipe your bruin card when you go in.

where's the workout center?
where can you get more info about this so called workout center?

Also, do lots of ucla student go to L.A. fitness or other public fitness center? or do they have some super secret exclusive ucla fitness center?

most people go to wooden, which is across bruin plaza from the bruin bear and ackerman. its convenient, cheap, and 2 years old. it offers pretty much anything you'd want from a chain gym, including classes.

im actually going to pay extra to continue to use wooden post graduation. i love it.

Is that place packed? what are the "rush hours" of those gyms? At 24 hour fitness, its usually packed around 4-6pm

its busy from around 730 am to 930 am, 5:30-900pm on weekdays. weekends are a crapshoot and it depends on where you are in the quarter. but really even when its really crowded it doesn't take too long to get a machine. i don't think i've ever waited more than 15 or 20 minutes at the absolute most. their system is relatively efficient.

So let me get this straight, for students it is FREE, and if you are not a student or a graduate you can use it too, but you have to pay?

I'm totally into Squash and I know that mostly older people play it (and at my old gym were mostly occupied by old people when I wanted to play), does that mean that the courts can used up by non students??

its not technically free. it's something like $12/quarter. community members, including alumni, can purchase memberships for certain fees. there are plenty of older people in there early in the morning and in the evenings.

and i don't know anything about how that works but sure, i guess they could be. really, there are plenty of resources for everyone. its a brand new facility.

$15 for students, $20 for recreational users.

The facility is not big enough to accomodate the large # of people who use it daily. It's not the best looking gym (compared to other colleges), but it's well above average.

maybe because i don't really use the raquetball courts or weights or anything, but ive never had an issue with there being soooo many people using stuff that i got screwed. or maybe i just learned when to go so it wouldn't be crowded.

i dunno. either way its definitely a pretty nice facility and you'll make it work.

There should be more basketball courts (never empty), more equipment in the fitness room, and it'd be nice if they would double the outdoor area and put more equipment there.

They could possibly cut into 1/5 of the IM field and that walkway in between; that would be nice.

oh i love that walkway. i always walked (sigh. past tense) behind wooden from janss when i didn't want to deal with people on bruinwalk.

am now old and w.i.s.t.f.u.l* for the wooden walkway.

*what the hell? i hate filters that censor completely innocuous words.

^ I think it's the "s t f u"

ah. it censored the "i' though, too. it was weird.

i hate filters. im a grown up.
