Workout

LesOs im a runner too. lol and its ok, everyone that benches a lot now started off benching small amounts.

I am a sprinter, I can lift a lot but I do mainly light weights with a lot of reps. You need a lot of explosive power to sprint.

Explosive power is heavy weight with fast reps. Low reps, but lots of sets.

I max out on the bench at around 175 (bar,2 plates of 45, 2 plates of 25) but I'd rather do dumbbell presses.

How is that a large assumption? I have benched 225 2+ times on multiple occasions and have done 230 in the past month. I don't see how that is anything like running a marathon in 2 1/2 hours without training. If you've spent any amount of time lifting heavy you know that maxes can vary from day to day.

 • eat six smaller meals throughout the day (3 main meals / 3 snacks), don't go more than 3 hours without eating
 • DON'T SKIP BREAKFAST, it jumpstarts your metabolism for the day
 • do strength/resistance training, the more muscle mass your body has the more cals your body will burn just living to maintain the muscle
 • drink about 8 cups of water a day/keep hydrated in general
 • eat healthy foods

I am always the only girl in the weight-lifting area of the YMCA. oh well.

BP: 70 (lol I suck, pretty much)
Squats: 185
Deadlifts: my coach doesn't want me to do them for some reason

I've only lifted weights once. I run a lot and just keep myself active playing tennis and beach volleyball.

i assumed you never lifted before and that you were saying that you thought you could bench that weight. my apologies to you.

Prolly cuz its really easy to mess up your back doing them. I'm not knocking them, just saying you have to know what you're doing and be really careful doing them.

Does anybody know how to increase bench press?
Could I do some supplemental lifts like incline/flyes/declines with dumbells to help my bench press?

Also, does anybody have any tips for bulking up during school? There is a no food allowed in classrooms, only cafeteria rule. The whole winter I've been on a bulking diet, but now comes the end of my winter break tomorrow, and I'm scared all of my precious weight will be lost because I'll have to return to my normal diet. Usually, during the break, I would stay up late at night (around 2 am) and take two meals, one at 10-11 and one right before I go to sleep.
I guess with school starting up again, I will eat a meal right after school and right before I go to sleep.

And, does anybody here take creatine? Do you have to cycle the creatine because I've just been taking a teaspoon each day, but I haven't seen much gain in my lifts.

"I don't bench that much but I "suppose" my max is somewhere around 225-235."

hpa10, i thought the same thing....the wording of his post suggested that he was just guessing and had no real idea, my bad.

I feel really weak now. My max is ~15 pounds more than the bar.

How would you get that...thats like 1 (5) and 1 (2.5) on each side 70pds...you should look at how much you weigh to what your lifting ...thats what matters not the actual number (pds)

Standard olympic bars, which are what most schools have, are 45 lbs. Thus, it's 60 lbs. And yes, that's how you'd add 15 lbs to the bar. A 5 lb weight and a 2.5 lb weight to each side.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

love working out

bench is my favorite besides rows

i lost a lot during the football season and went from about 230 to 210

so ****ed

My triceps are weak, contrary to my biceps.

you should work out your triceps, it will make your arm look more proportional

I can bench approximately 1,200 lbs, give or take a couple of lbs depending on how I'm feeling that day.
