world history horrible score!

hello everyone.
i was wondering.. if i did horribly on my SAT II world history (i got a 620) but i got a 5 on my AP, will colleges balance out the two grades somehow.
i took AP World my sophmore year and then took the SAT II in june because i thought i would be ok.. but obviously it wasnt too good of an idea.

i really want to apply to the upper level schools such as columbia, cornell, georgetown, boston college, duke etc. will my 620 hurt me greatly?

ive tried to study for it so that i could retake it this december.. but i am not confident i will do much better.. instead im planning on taking the US history test when i finish AP.. will that be ok if lets say i got 750+ on that and also took chem and IIC? i am much more confident in US than i was when i took World.

please help me!
thanks

you need to realize that the SAT II are for admission. the ap are for placement.

at the level of those schools you should have SAT IIs 700 or better to be in their middle 50.

that being said, there are so many factors that go into this mess called admissions --recs, essays, ecs, gpa,

you need to check the common data set or class profile for those topnotch schools to be in their middle 50 altho that means that 25% are below and 25% above that range--anything can happen.

at some schools the SAT II can outweigh bad sat/act --it just depends on how standardized score centric the school is

I recommend that you retake it, and just really study for it. That way it will show that you can improve. If you do get a 750 on all the SAT II's you listed then I think it will help your case. Musictoad is right SAT II's are for admission and APs are for placement.

however, these colleges only require 3 SAT II's.. so if i only wrote my scores for chem, us, and IIC on my application (i know they still get the grade cause its written on my transcript) will they still consider my world grade even though its not part of the 3 tests that i will write on the application line "SAT II scores"??

Normally Colleges will take your 3 best SAT II socres, but then again that can vary (check with the colleges you're applying to).

they'll take your 3 best. even then, depending on the importance factor in admissions, it may or may not have an impact. they want to brag about how smart their class is so they're not going to take one of your "worst" scores.

in a thread located somewhere I compiled the SAT II ranges from MIT, Middlebury and someone else contributed Princeton. The middle 50% range is 700 and on up. Aim for that range to feel comfortable about these stupid tests.
