World History SAT II and AP

I’m new to this so i’m not sure if I put this in the right category. But I’m taking world history this year. I was wondering if :

 1. I use the barron’s book for AP world history, would I be able to score above 750 for SAT II and 4/5 for AP?

Also, I don’t have a AP textbook to study from, and my teacher said we were mainly going to focus on Europe.

So, am I better off studying for Euro AP and SAT II? or is that a lot harder becuase it is more specific?

P.S. I’m a sophmore. Thanks sooo much.

anybody? any help would be appreciated!!

I took the AP European Exam (never heard of world history) but I have always been fond of REA. I know people say it has too much information and takes too long to read but it is very thorough and has great information for putting into your essays. Also, it has random data that might show up (i remember atleast 5 questions that did)

I got a 5 on the european Exam if you want to know.

If your class focuses on Europe, I wouldn't advise you to take the AP World History exam. I took it last year and remember my teacher informing us to stay clear of a Eurocentric study of World History.

However, the AP World History exam is easy (I got a 5) and unlike the AP European History test, it does not really look for specific details. So it's up to you; I guess you have to choose between an easier test and a content-based test you will be more prepared for.

If you do decide to take APWH, then the Princeton Review is a great prep.

SATII WH and APWH aren't extremely challenging tests. If you read Barron's APWH thoroughly and retain the material, that will be adequate "material" prep there. For actual "taking the test" prep, buy Princeton's APWH book. Those two books should earn you a 5 with little difficulty. For SATII WH, get Kaplan's prep and with your knowledge from APWH, you should be able to get an 800, since the curve allows ~14 questions wrong and still maintain a perfect score. Thus, I advise you to take the June SATII WH after the May APWH exam. That will help you immensely.

I agree with primeminister on his point about not focusing on European history. It is crucial not to focus your studies on European History...if your class covers European history, it would be much more advisable for you just to take the AP Euro exam instead of the APWH exam.

Having said that, good luck on your endeavours!

(I scored a 5 and 800 on APWH (self-study) and SATII WH, respectively, in case you're curious)

wow. thanks soo much!

What's the percentile for those that score an 800?

haha wow. Oasis, I did the exact same thing, i mean same testing dates and everything. I also did the course indep. I got a 5 and 800 too. Barrons is very good, especially for teh AP. After the AP the SAT is a bit of a joke, so i used kaplan and p-ton review just to get a difference angle on the material. Its a hella easy ap exam

Password, if you want, I could send you a syllabus and some lessons plans that my teachers has made. (I take APWH too) We could help each other for the preperation of the test.

darn, I should have taken the SAT II world history test right after my AP test. it's been 6 months and I can't remember the stuff anymore.

murrah08: that would be much appreciated. in our class (not an AP, just regular) all we've done is enlightenment, french revolution, and starting scientific revolution. i bet you guys covered a lot mroe in AP!

and any input if i should take may or june sat II for world history since AP is beginning of may...?

and ahhhh can't decide. AP euro or AP world??? heard AP euro was harder and AP world was considered pretty easy for AP??? any truth in that?
thanks!!!

i dont think AP world will be any easier, Im in it right now and its alot of information; also, if youre focusing on european history in class i would STRONGLY suggest that is nowhere near enough for world history AP

So which is better: Barrons or Kaplans?

I would say Barron's.

Password, AP World History is very hard! There is so much information to cover, and it is very different from any other history I studied, because it is not written from a European view, like European History, but a world's perspective. There is a lot of information and people to remember, approximately 700 B.C.E to Present. While in European History, you can remember dates and some information over about a 300 year period; I believe it is 1750 to Present.

no, it's more like from 1300-present in AP Euro.

Well, thank you for correcting for me, Johnny182.

Euro is according to the College Board 1450 CE - Present.. though there are a few people prior to this date that are always helpful to know..

I scored a 5 on WH and a 4 on Euro last year (self study) With review of my AP books + Barrons Sat II WH is it probably that I will score an 800 on the SatII exam? or is it significantly harder?

Password, so I guess you're thinking of doing World History?
Anyways, take it in MAY, which I think is the same time as the AP test.

To everyone else, if you read the other World History boards on CC.com there is a clear consensus that the PRINCETON REVIEW is the best prep. Go here if you don't believe me--->> http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=104688

Also, the World History exam is more of a skill and general concept test and less of a factual test (like AP European) thus most people find it much easier.

I got a 5 on US History and 800 on the SAT II and 5 on the World History test. Do you think I'll have a good chance of getting 800 this time?
