AP World History

Hi. I am in an AP World History class right now, and I have the exam this May. How should I get prepared for this test independently (along with school preparation for the exam)?
Thanks.

it's not as hard as people think it is

i recommend buying the SAT II: world history from BARRONS. its very complete. (I took the test as a sophomore 2 years ago and didn't get this prep, but after flipping through it, noticed that it was the same things that were on the test.)

Thanks for the suggestion.
How hard is it to get a 5 on the AP World History exam?
What book(s) did you use to work on achieving the grade? Thanks.

I got a 4 with nothing except the class, but I've always been a history buff. I read it on my own for its own sake....

If you're not like me, I suggest SAT II, because trust me. Barrons SAT II: World History = AP World History Test. This makes sense because Barron's is known for being the hardest test prep maker (they overprep u for SAT II) so yeah, i hope that makes sense...

ApWorld,
I am in the same situation. I'm sophmore taking AP World History and I'm not doing peticularly well in it. I did bad on my final and it should affect my grade. Well, I need to really catch up in it and get a 4/5 on the AP test in May. I'm suprised that you say the SATII book covers ALL of THE AP material. It can be possible. Can anyone recommend the best AP prep book for this class? Maybe even tips? It really doesn't help that I'm not a fan of history- I'm a science and math guy. Well, whatever it takes, I am going to work my ass off to get some good scores on the tests and achieve that 4/ preferably 5.

I just told you about the best prep book....

Barron's SAT II: World History. It has everythign you need to know, and how do I know, you ask? because i only came across it AFTER taking the test!

-Getting a 5 is not that hard. I got a 5 taking a regular world history class and self-studying for the test, and it wasn't particularly difficult.
-As for prep book, I would recommend you buy an AP book, because half of the test is essays, and an SAT II book won't be able to help you out with that. PR's book is pretty good for that- it will teach you to write essays that are structured well and cover everything on the rubric. The PR book is the only one I saw/used, but my friend who used the Barron's AP book also got a 5, so either should be fine.
-For studying: look through whatever book you get, and see how it matches up with the class you're taking. Be sure to review anything you haven't covered at all or haven't really covered in detail.

thank you.. anyone else?

mesotired is completely right, doing well on any AP history test is not difficult...if you have good writing skills, you should be able to nail the writing part (seeing as how they give a choice as to which topic to write about, you're bound to know one of them, right???) if u get anywhere from 30-50% of the questions right, you've positioned yourself for anywhere from a 3-5 on the test

Write high-level (as in vocab., structure, fact-based) essays; unfortunately, AP essays aren't the best arena to showcase scintillating analysis. I got a 5 last year by reading the chapter summaries in the Barron's book and answering the questions at the end of each chapter, and also looking a little bit in the Kaplan SAT II book (couldn't take the SAT II because I was out of town, though :( ). Mind you, this was in the 2-3 days before the test, probably a total of 2-3 hours. So, just ace the essays - remember, the graders only take a minute or two on each one, so LOOKING smart is often more important than BEING smart - and you'll be fine.

This was the easiest AP exam I have yet taken. As long as you do good on the multiple choice and write coherently, you should get a 5.

^^

easiest ap espescially the pathetic excuse for a dbq,

my studying consisted of reading a lot of national geographic + using ap euro stuff

yeah its muy facil. 5!

I'm taking this course right now as well. I have the Princeton Review book, which really helped on the final for first semester.

I took the class last year (as a sophmore) and I looked over a prep book a week or so before the exam and got a 5. btw- It was my first AP exam!

Thanks. When you did the essay part for the AP exam, how did you group your information before writing the essays?
Thanks.
