Worried EA Student

Hi guys,

I was recently admitted to Boston College CAS but I have realized that I made a big mistake on the app because I know I want to study business at the CSOM. I really want to go to Boston College but I am unsure of what I should do. Does anyone have experience with this and do you suggest I call or email admissions ASAP to hopefully get this resolved before I enroll?

Thank you for any advice because I am extremely worried about my situation.

I remember from past threads other people asking the same question. Here is one such thread. You can probably find more with a quick search.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/boston-college/898298-question-about-carroll-school-management.html?highlight=cas+to+csom

Kelly37’s link contains some useful info. As noted on that link, it’s quite difficult to transfer internally into CSOM. Your class, however, can take up to 8 CSOM courses. You’d likely have to override in since most CSOM classes are school-restricted, but that shouldn’t be a big obstacle.

As far as “getting this resolved”, from Admissions’ standpoint, there’s nothing to resolve. You applied to CAS and were accepted. At that point, Admissions is done.

With up to 8 courses, you should be able to get a very good grounding in business and can list the courses on your resume going forward. Don’t sweat it - you’ll be fine.

There are still some majors within CAS that are business related, such as Finance, but transferring to CSOM is very difficult, and very few students are accepted as transfers from CAS.

There is no finance major in CAS. It’s only in CSOM. Economics, however, can be chosen either in CAS or in CSOM. The former is a 10 course major and the latter is a 6 course concentration. The point about transferring into CSOM internally being difficult is spot on.

You’re right. It is Economics and not Finance that you can have as a major in CAS.

If I got a 4.0 and had a federal work study job as well as a part time internship would my chances be any better?

I don’t know… all I’ve heard is that transferring internally is almost impossible.
