I've been in a bit of a panic about my GPA and ACT score as my junior year comes to an end. I have a 3.36 GPA and an ACT score of 23. I really have my heart set on going to Indiana University, as I want to eventually go to their Business School (Kelley) to major in Finance. Is my GPA not good enough? I'm taking the ACT two more times in April, one more in June, and hope to get at least in the 25-27 range. Anyone who has been accepted here want to share their GPA and ACT score and advice?

Do NOT take the ACT more than 3 times. It’s true you can take the test as many times as you like, but it looks very, very bad to take it more than 3 times. I think you have a good chance, probably a match, if you are in-state.

The average ACT at IU is 25, if you can at least raise your current score to a 24, you have a good chance of getting in.

Chance me? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1637313-what-are-my-chances-to-get-into-notre-dame.html#latest

Generally it’s your choice which result to send.

I think you have good chances of being accepted.

I would be out of state, but if anyone knows, do you have to submit all of your ACT scores to Indiana? Because if not then would it not matter if I took the ACT 1 time or 5 times since I’d only be submitting my best score?

@wannabefeynman Yes, you can pick which test to submit, but the number of times the test has been taken is openly available. I’ve been told, by multiple informed sources, that 3 must be the cut off point for any competitive school.

Oh really? I did not know that the amount of times you take the test is seen by the university. In that case, I do think it would be not good for @Sarahashleys to take it so many times.

@heyhey2034 @wannabefeynman Thank you both for the information and input. I guess I’ll be taking my last ACT in a few weeks, hoping I do well!

@Sarahashleys
You are welcome.

It is better to do fairly badly on a test then take it numerous times.

The other thing to consider is that if you take the ACT 3 times and receive a score within a few points each time, taking it a 4th won’t help you. I wouldn’t worry about it to much, perhaps buy a test prep book, eat a good meal on test day, get a great night sleep and stay well hydrated. There was a study done by U of Illinois a few years back that showed lack of sleep, on average, hurts your test score more than any other single factor.

@heyhey2034 @wannabefeynman Hi! Just wanted to give an update… I got back my score for my second ACT I took in beginning of April and it was a 24! I took my third (and last) today, and am hoping for a 25-26! Also with my GPA… I failed geometry last semester, which was what brought me down. I talked to my counselor and she says that when my A I got this semester is put in, I’ll have a 3.53 GPA. I’m starting to feel a lot better about Indiana!

@Sarahashleys
That’s very good! The average ACT score for the 25th percentile there was 24 and the average GPA was 3.62, so your chances are looking better now. Be sure to apply to safety schools, however.
