A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Boy…so confusing, yeesh

@AIA I studied Antigone for a year in Classics, and I thought it was brilliant!

The worst for me was Great Expectations, that book just goes on and on.

@UKgirl, how the heck did you understand it!!

I don’t know, maybe it helped that we looked quite a lot at the background and the other Theban Plays?

The Theban plays gave me like 50 *** moments

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

I couldn’t follow the storyline very well and it was hard for me to relate to any of the characters and the way the book liked to write in the local dialect didn’t help much either. I stopped reading halfway through 'cause I decided I could’ve been doing so much better things with my time than sitting there and trying to understand a book I had no interest in reading in the first place.

Some of this is due to it being nonfiction.

Kyp- I don’t know what you’re trying to say :/

It got bleeped out

I

A Separate Peace (or as I like to call it, A Separate Peace of Crap). Horrible book. I could find no redeeming qualities in it.

I know, but is there anyway for you to frame it so I understand and it’s not bleeped out?

ohmygod benditlikebenjii: You didn’t like Huckleberry Finn? I’m reading an excerpt of it and I already love it so much! The moral lessons it encompasses are among the most advanced that I have ever read, and Huck + Jim’s relationship is intriguing. I’d like to know why you didn’t like it!

The Theban tragedies were good but so disgusting and weird and I had around 40 what the four lettered word remarks reading all three plays

Yeah fair enough, they were pretty messed up. but really interesting and fun to read :)

Great Expectations.
99% of the people I know hate it with a passion.

Ahh!! A Separate Peace was AWFUL!

All I will say is thank God you can watch Shakespeare on film and it’s the only literature where schools encourage it. If I had to have done Shakespeare strictly on text I’d have been complete toast. Kenneth Branagh, I am indebted to you eternally.

I love great expectations

^ are you just saying that to be controversial and annoying?

Kyp - did you like Middlemarch? Have you tried it?
