Was not a fan of catcher In the rye at allll!
For Romeo and Juliet, I didn’t like it either but what made the unit fun was that my teacher, a few friends and I would constantly make fun of the nonsense of the plot and ridicule the characters and get a laugh out of it

Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
A Room with a View and Howard’s End by EM Forster

Zzz so boring…

On the other hand, the best books I’ve ever read are Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon, The Catcher in the Rye, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Crime and Punishment, In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, and The Norton Anthology. :)

THE worst: on the road by Jack Kerouac
I love reading, and a lot of books you guys mentioned are some of my favorites: Jane Eyre, Pride&prejudice, The kite runner, Tuesdays with Morrie…
But I’m not a fan of Gatsby.

Twelve Angry Men, by far. The idea of it was alright but juror 8 struck me the wrong way because I didn’t particularly like the girl who was reading his part in class…:P

Wuthering Heights

Least Favorite:

Nectar in a Sieve
Love Medicine
Romeo and Juliet
The Shawl

Favorite:

Pride and Prejudice
Death of a Salesman
The Crucible
Night
Slaughterhouse-Five

The Tempest by William Shakespeare lol

How has Lord of the Flies gone unmentioned?! That book still gives me nightmares. :P

I guess because it’s an incredible book? I read it a few years ago when some other English classes did it, even though my class did different books.

Freshman year
Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac -
Animal Farm +
Romeo and Juliet +
Some book about the first black school or something like that. /
To Kill a Mockingbird +

Sophomore Year:
Great Gatsby -
Secret Life of Bees -
A Separate Peace +
Catcher in the Rye +
Anthem -
Julius Caesar +
Their Eyes Were Watching God +
The Picture of Dorian Gray +

Junior Year:
The Odyssey (whole thing) +
Kite Runner +
Slaughterhouse-Five +
Huck Finn +
A Brave New World +
Medea +
The Metamorphosis +
Much Ado About Nothing +
The Miracle Worker +

Oh, we also read The Crucible sophomore year. I liked that. My least favorite was probably Anthem. Lame, objectivist BS that fails to develop as realistic of goals as Brave New World or 1984.

Hands down Ethan Frome from last year. I was depressed for a good month or two after reading it.

My teacher kinda ruined Lord of the Flies for me cuz of all the symbol analysis stuff we had to do. I’m sure I would have liked the book if it weren’t for the ridiculous amount of notes we had to take.

I liked Lord of the Flies…

The Freedom Writers Diary…its so boring and repetitive and i dont even understand why my teacher would even want to teach it (pretty sure none of you read that xD)
Old Man and the Sea is also really boring, all he does is catch a big fish =_=
I was okay with Lord of the Flies. I didn’t find it exactly terrifying, but it did show a lot about human nature.

Bless Me Ultima- the plot was insane, and not in a good way. All my classmates agreed that there was no way that any of that stuff could have happened to a six year old. Even my teacher admitted that she didn’t like it.
The End of the Affair- I liked the writing style in this book, but I wasn’t a fan of the way that religion was shown.
I agree with aar2697 about Anthem- it had a really uninspired message and basically seemed unrealistic and not well thought out.

I didn’t like The Awakening, The Scarlet Letter, or The Great Gatsby.

I loved Great Expectations, Tess of the D’Urbervilles, and Moby Dick.

I was the only one in my class who actually read “Heart of Darkness,” and didn’t just use the SparkNotes. I still hated it!!!
