Worst College Names

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Occidental. Sounds too much like Accidental

Rice isn’t that appealing :)

i like Biola, Pepperdine[reminds me of candy cane forests in candy land], and berkeley

eww to-cornell[i hate cornell notes], Ball state, and Peabody[sounds like busy-body]

Ursinus, Transylvania, Goucher (this one sounds like an STD), Tufts…um, I’ll think of more

Johns Hopkins (I find it really awkward to say), Lynchburg College, Cornell College (how can you not automatically think of Cornell University??)

Pensacola.
Reminds me of penicillin and Ebola

for me it’s emory
here in russia this is how we actually call emo kids… so yeah. sounds weird as an answer to a question “where are you going to?”

Ken, the difference is that the College of NJ just named themselves that a few years ago (it used to be trenton state). Most state colleges with names like that were the first in the state. Actually Princeton used to be named the college of NJ but at the time it was named it was the only college in the state (same with university of pennsylvania, etc.). The main state school in NJ is Rutgers.

I still don’t understand why that makes ‘TCNJ’ vague. Connecticut College and Colorado College are but two examples of colleges that are named after states but are not main-state-colleges. (The two are private LACs, in fact).

I didn’t see there was already a thread on this but there are some good ones on here (better than mine).

Props to: Ursinus, Tufts, Skidmore (skid mark) and Gougher (std, lol).

cdover - to me tcnj sounds vague when there are dozens of colleges in NJ. It would be different if the name dated back to when it was the only college in NJ. It is odd to sudenly rename a college with such a general name - especially when it was used before. I think they should have stayed as Trenton State.

Tufts – was talking to a friend recently and said it reminded me of that one house from Harry Potter (Hufflepuff, I think? They rhyme, anyway).
St. Olaf – I had a friend who was really interested in attending (she chose another college though) and all I could think of was the series of unfortunate events as someone already mentioned.
Colgate – all I can think of is the toothpaste!
Rice and Brandeis, dunno, they just sound unappealing.

Ball State (haha), Colgate (my mom made fun of me when I mentioned that I was interested in it), Pepperdine, and my very own college, Tufts. Seriously. I wouldn’t mind if they changed their name.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania…I mean comon…just pick one.

Harvey Mudd

For the millionth time:

[Indiana, Pennsylvania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Indiana, Pennsylvania - Wikipedia)

Gustavus Adulphus and St. Olaf

I don’t know what’s worse - living in a state with two colleges with names like this or living in a state that just about elected AL FRANKEN. sigh… glad I’m leaving here in two years.

By the way, does any one want to but a ShamWow?

^

Hahaha. I sat there watching the ad with my mouth agape.

I heard the ShamWow guy’s in jail…idk why though
