Worst UC?

Is there a UC that no one likes to go to/regret going to?

UC MERCED. period. Though to be fair, it will be pretty good in a couple of years, once they have built more than one single building.

I hear Riverside is pretty undesirable, as well.

Your post implies that the worst UC is the least deisreble, or least liked. Are you asking about quality, happiness with the experience, what?

u can't go wrong with any UC though. there is no worst uc.

I think the only reason UC Riverside is unpopular is because of the sh.itty area surrounding it. Otherwise, if it was located in a trendier area like LA or SF, it would probably go up in the ranks.

The worst UC is University of California, Riverside. Otherwise known as UCR or University of Chinese Rejects.

Whereas UCLA and UCB are filled with the most brilliant students from California (who do not go into the Ivies and other elite schools)

UCSD gets some overspill and some UCLA/UCB rejects.

UCSB/UCD/UCI/UCSC are filled with UCLA/UCB/UCSD rejects who choose their respective back up UC off location or personal fit.

UCR gets the worst of the worst. Students who can not even get into a baseline UC end up coming to UCR. From personal experience, these kids are unmotivated and pretty stupid. I know they're are exceptions but in a general sense, most people will acknowledge that the UCR kids are far far far away from the cream of the crop.

UCM does not really belong in the ladder of succesion as it mostly feeds off the surrounding community. Most students apply only there.

The worst UC is still better than the best Calstate in my mind.

I would go to Cal Poly or SDSU over UCR, UCSC, and UCM!!!!

all of them suck except for the original-- CAL

geez...:/ maybe in terms of ranking but for most ppl it's not all about that. for me, UCSF seems very desirable! i <3 SF! for undergrad i don't really mind all THAT much as long as i benefit most from it, which in my case UCD =]

UCSF doesn't have undergrad---it's solely a medical school

UCSC is the worst. They let too many professors not born in America teach classes.

what are you talking about?

UCSC > UCR/UCM combined....

I think they used to have a bio program. Does anyone know its history, or when it stopped?

What's wrong with that, as long as they're smart, good teachers, helpful, ect?

Great argument. What's your reasoning?

UC Riverside has historically been the worst UC, but UC Merced is new and doesn't have much going for it either.

I think "historically" should be qualified. What do you mean, im_blue?

I think UCR and UCM and tied as the worst

I mean that UC Riverside was the consensus worst UC until UC Merced opened this year.

UCM simply doesn't have a reputation it's built for itself.

I would think if you asked any relatively knowledgeable person on the street they would say UCR is the least prestigious UC, not necessarily the worst.

I think besides actual location, the name 'Riverside' (from a sheltered Orange County perspective) just has a pretty squalid and subpar connotation...just my $.02...not to offend but El Monte kind of has the same effect for me.

So if the UC system continues as it has, I think we'll be seeing UC-South Central Los Angeles (or UCSCLA) and UC-Bad Part of Oakland (or UCBPO)...

Except: new, much larger dorms, small class sizes, full access to profs (no TAs, no grad assts), ability to work on research projects with profs as freshmen or sophomores, and profs who are committed to teaching AND research.

Granted, it has zero reputation as a new campus, but those attributes look very attractive within the UC system.
