Would 2 years of honors world history be enough for AP World?

AFAIK my school doesn’t offer AP World, but we are required to take world history 9th and 10th grades. Would 2 years of honors world history, supplemented by review books, be enough to do well on the AP exam? Would it still technically count as a self study? Also, what about the SAT II World History exam?

Looks like you go to school in NY :stuck_out_tongue: You could self, it probably won’t be that hard. However if you don’t have experience with other history APs, you should ask your teacher if he would be available to answer your questions about material/FRQs. FRQs for history APs are challenging, so get some tips from an AP history teacher in your school :D

FRQ’s and DBQ’s are challenges especially for Euro/World because they have to be structured.

Have your teacher spend some 1-1 time with you to TEACH you how to write those essays it takes time.

Its not like APUSH where its just free style thesis writing.

Thanks for the replies – risubu, I’m actually not in New York. Is this schedule common there?

yeah global history is a two year course and is taken frosh years. I actually enjoyed it. Excited to see what a one year history course feels like again this year in us history.

@dic301 what do you mean by free style thesis writing?

you need to write certain things to get points. in world/euro if you don’t have “this part” you get docked.

in APUSH you write your essay with a thesis then as much support as you can provide.

Not sure, but for prep books Princeton review is like 6 out of 10. Has a lot of unnecessary info, offers too many specific practice questions when AP exam focuses on trends!

You don’t even need a year of world history itself. My world history teacher was a joke when it came to teaching us about history, much less make us analyze history itself. Basically, as long as you did the final project (about 8 hours of work), you received an A in the class. Out of about 35 people, 34 got A’s. The funniest part of this whole thing is the fact that I still got a 5 on the exam! I purchased a review book, which is in your best interest to do. As long as you do the reading, know how to formulate your essays in the FRQ’s, and utilize a review book (well this is highly optional, it worked for me, but everyone’s different). Good luck with the world history exam, it opened my eyes to AP exams!

Sounds like you live in Charlotte, NC?

0 years is enough.

I got a 4 with maybe 10 or so hours of study and maybe 4 essays written.
