Would a good SAT 2 Math Level 2 "Make Up" for a bad math grade at school?

Hey guys,
so since ninth grade I've been getting over a 95 average in Math class, but upon entering 11th grade and taking the hardest class my school offers, IB Math HL, my average for the first semester was an 80, which was shocking for me since I had done so well in previous years. However, I've been taking sparknotes practice tests for Math level 2, and have been consistently scoring an 800, with the exception of one 770. If i was to get an 800 on the actual subject test would it make up for the 80 average in math class?

An 80 is pretty crappy so I would say no.

i’m not sure if it would ‘make up’ for it. it would probably help make up for a not so good standardized test score in math (my lowest section on the SAT, taking once, was math but i’m not worrying about it since i got an 800 on math level 1) since it would show that maybe you just didn’t test well on that day. it would help if you want to prove that you’re good at math, but on the other hand if you score an 800 they might wonder why you didn’t do so well in your HS class and they might think you were just being lazy (disclaimer: i’m in high school and these are just my opinions, so get advice from multiple sources). however i think getting a high SAT II score will probably only help you, so go for it even though it might not help you out with that particular grade. also, you’re only getting a B- for semester 1. if you bring your grade up in the 2nd half of the year you’ll have nothing to worry about, so focus on that too. good luck! :)

It would definitely help, because an 800 on any test is great, but it probably wouldn’t make up for it completely. Hopefully, the colleges realize that this is a very tough class and also realize that you have a good track record in math otherwise.
